» Some (Slight) New Details On Next Id Game

The Spike cable TV channel's Game Head show on Saturday night was taped at QuakeCon 2006 a few weeks ago, where a couple of more details were revealed about id Software's untitled next internal game. While it's been known for some time that this new game will be an all new franchise and not a sequel to a previous id game, lead game designer Tim Willits revealed that id is not going to take a huge leap in game graphics for their next game as they have for their previous titles. "We are actually holding back a bit because we want to have a lot more CPU power for the gameplay, for the interaction, for the AI, for the driving, for all those types of things." id's master programmer John Carmack admitted that while their next game will be an action title, it will be a new direction for id rather than a corridor themed first person shooter. "It does have everyone (at id) certainly a little bit nervous, but it's a step we have to take."

As opposed to the lack of AI in all their previous games. ;-)

I get the feeling it'll be Oblivion with a BFG.

» Broken with Firefox?
Is it just me or does this site look semi-broken when viewed with Firefox?

I can't see any of the comments on any topics unless I use IE.

You're right. Apparently Firefox wasn't telling me that there was an update. I had to manually go to the site and get the new version. Everything is good now.

Move along. Nothing to see here...

i really think that id lost their tauch right after Quake 2.
Quake 3 was fun but not as good as Quake 2 and Doom 3 was trying to be a Half Life clone. you can clearly see that the development of D3 started right about the time HL was huge.

I can't quite see how it is a clone. One has a pretty open and interactive enviroment with a good story and the other is a claustrophobic, key searching, imp around the corner fragfest with better lighting.

But I will agree on you that Q2 was where it would seem Id lost their fundamental touch. I just think it's because the industry (or the fans) grew out of it since so much has progressed since Q2. Casual gamers see Q4/D3 as a tech demo, while hardened players see them as it should be, a game paying homage to it's classic routes.

I wish it would have been as good as Half-Life.
I know its not exactly a clone but you can see the influence Valve had on id in this game, from the settings (a Lab) the fact that workers there become zombie like monsters, the wall machine that heals you and refills your armor, the physics gun from the expansion pack.
may be the word "hl clone" was wrong, I just meant that they drew allot of inspiration from HL1 and had little success in recapturing the experience.
and i must agree on the second part you've said, they really are just trying to sell engins...

The setting and enemies of Doom3 were ripped off from Half-Life huh?? I guess you might not have been born yet when the original Doom was released.
