| | (Post a comment) » Crytek: Crysis Won't Run On Next-Gen Consoles In Perferred FormTeamXbox is reporting via German magazine Heise that Crytek senior game designer Bernd Diemer claims their upcoming PC first person shooter Crysis won't be able to run on next-gen consoles like the Xbox 360 and the PS3. While Crysis will run on the current DirectX9 and the upcoming DirectX10, the DirectX10 version will be the preferred visual look for the game and as such won't be compatible with the Xbox 360 and PS3. | Previous news article | Back to main news | Next news article |

| yeah, 360 runs proprietary graphics layer, not "DX9" or "DX10". Some features are beyond DX10 while some DX10 features are missing, so DX10 obviously isn't going to run straight off. With some effort, crysis would certainly run on 360. I'm not sure how things are with PS3, except that they run proprietary layer (Based on OpenGL and CG) as well; by Nvidia.
Seems like this news is taken out ot context somewhat...
Oh, and PC might be "better" with it's constant updates and new versions. But the downside to this is that none of the versions get utilized fully, devs need to move to new versions rather than try and master the current version. Just look at early PS2 games vs. current PS2 games. DX9 offers a lot, and I believe we haven't seen even nearly everything that could be done...» Login to reply to this |

| | DX10 isn't a magical fairy code that makes games look pretty. Crytek is just being lazy, they could get it to work on consoles. » Login to reply to this |

| | LOL, obvious from looking at the video for Crysis. The consoles are visualy outdated already, not that this is a surprise. They are, and always will be, inferior to PC technology. What I find hilarious is the insistance that somehow the 360 was/is more capable. » Login to reply to this |
