FiringSquad continues its series of Q&As with game developers about their opinions on the November launches of the PS3 and Wii, the Xbox 360's chances and the PC game platform.
Iain McNeil: Co-Founder - Slitherine Software
FiringSquad: First, do you personally plan to buy either a PS3, Wii or both this month? If so why and if not why not?
Iain McNeil: No, we're snowed under at the moment and until April wont get much time to play other games! I look forwards to trying it out then though :)
FiringSquad:What games from either the Wii or the PS3 launch line-up are you most eager to play and why?
Iain McNeil: I am more interested in Wii than PS3, partly because of the price point, but mostly because the controller is going to encourage new genres that we've never even though of due to its controller, however there is no specific title I'm particularly looking forwards to.
FiringSquad:The Xbox 360 will soon be a year into its existance. Do you believe the console will hold its own this year against the attention that the Wii and PS3 will generate?
Iain McNeil: It's really hard to say. Wii is going to come in with a great price point and some innovative titles and you can never write off Sony. I think we're going to find the race much closer this time round, with no clear winner for some time.
FiringSquad:Finally, the PC platform always seem to take a back seat to the other consoles during launch periods. Do you think the release of Windows Vista in January will help spur more interest in PC games going forward?
Iain McNeil: I can't see it making much difference to retail, but I will be really interested to see how the integrated digital delivery system works. It could be a great way to get PC games out the mass market in a way that's never been possible before.
Katie "Khatie" Postma: Lead Community Manager, Stargate Worlds - Cheyenne Mountain Entertainment
FiringSquad:First, do you personally plan to buy either a PS3, Wii or both this month? If so why and if not why not?
Katie "Khatie" Postma: No, I do not because we typically wait until the console has been out a while before we buy one ourselves; we have an Xbox and want to see how both the Wii and PS3 do (complaints, praise from new owners) over the holidays and we’ll get one in the new year.
FiringSquad:What games from either the Wii or the PS3 launch line-up are you most eager to play and why?
Katie "Khatie" Postma: Rayman for Wii and Sonic for PS3 (can you tell our kids play it more than we do?)
FiringSquad:The Xbox 360 will soon be a year into its existance. Do you believe the console will hold its own this year against the attention that the Wii and PS3 will generate?
Katie "Khatie" Postma: I have heard disturbing things about the 360’s issues so I will have to say no.
FiringSquad:Finally, the PC platform always seems to take a back seat to the other consoles during launch periods. Do you think the release of Windows Vista in January will help spur more interest in PC games going forward?
Katie "Khatie" Postma: I am not sure but I personally hope so
