» PS3 eBay Madness

As expected a ton of eBay listings have poppped up today with people wanting to sell off their Playstation 3 consoles that they purchased earlier today. This eBay page shows the highest bid prices for the consoles with a couple asking for $100,000 (good luck with that). While there have been some PS3s going for much higher bids, It looks like the sweet spot for prices on eBay is about $2,000 which is over four times the PS3 retail price.

» Wii doing fine
2000 Wii listed, 12000+ PS3s

The Wiis are selling for ~$450 on e-bay

PS3s are averaging about $1300/each in sales ending every couple of minutes or so.

Wii dominated by Pre-Sales auctions so harder to get solid idea of actual price. I'm guessing around $450 , will be interesting to see "unit in hand" closing prices later today.

as a % the Wii are selling at near 80% premium even though there's at least 4 times the supply.

Fun to watch. Don't really see the point of paying $1300 to be first with a game system with poorer launch graphics than the 360.

Sony is so full of themselves.

It's sort of stupid not to sell it if you're not loaded. As long as you're not greedy (and stupid) and posting a starting price of $2000, you could get it sold the same day, and then have enough to get one next week, and a couple games, and a controller. Just for giving up "being the first one on the block". I could go without playing it for a week for an extra $600. Heck, if you search completed listings, they're going for about $1200 right now. So if you got one, you could sell it, just buy one next week, and it would be like you got it for free. Now buying one on ebay for $1200 just to play it a week or two earlier is just plain stupid. I think the people selling them just have more sense than money.

You won't get one in a week or two. Even if Sony hits the target it will take months before they show up in stores. Also the response from gamers has been pretty poor for the PS3. 8/10 people where buying the system to place on ebay. You would expect more than that given the buzz Sony has been trying for.

You're being very naive Yoshi, this is a monetary issue, nothing more.
I can't wait to get a PS3 i can call my own, i managed to get my hands on two, i would love to open one, but with the demand so high, and the supply non-existent it would just be flat out stupid of me to buy it for myself at this point, once the market settles i'll get one for myself.

There's a very good reason 8 out of 10 people got it to resell it, lots, and lots of money.
there's a lot more "hardcore" people for money than there is for gaming.

Here is an intresting story about how much people are really getting on eBay for a PS3. The bids of 10,000+ are mostly coming from the same person who already bought like 4 systems. Like that person really has the $200,000...

So basicly if someone made over $2,000 off the system it probably was to someone with zero user feedback and the guy with the PS3 will never see the console. Also note that the same pictures are being used for a lot of the console sales. That leads me to belive that maybe the auctions are fake.

My roommate and I waited in line at walmart for about 7 hrs and got one. Sold it today for $2250 on ebay. I don't get why there are so many haters out there who complain about this. It's capitalism at it's best. If you don't like it, move to North Korea.

Amen, if you REALLY wanted one you should've been in line just like the rest of us, 2 days before launch, i managed to get two, and now it's time to rip the benefits.

There's a sucker born every minute. People buing PS3 at inflated price are definitely impatient suckers, who should be laughed at and ridiculed.
But on the other hand, people who buy them just to resell them are scalpers, filled with greed and try to justify their immoral action with sayings like "It's capitalism at it's best" or "A fool and his money are soon parted".

Nothing wrong with that. As they say a fool and his money are soon parted. Regardless of if you are a fanboy or not of Sony you have to agree the launch titles suck, the online is sub par and the system is in need of an update. It isn't worth being the first on the block to own this console instead of waiting to see Sony fix problems with the firmware, add online content and get some good games out.

Looks like nobody is paying more than around $800 for the console. Sure you have thousands of consoles for 2K but no bids.

Edit: Seems like the console is going for around $1200 but those are normally what people with good ebay feedback are getting and normally they are throwing in a game or movie. Not really that impressive. Seems like gamers are not intrested in paying that much and waiting or just not intrested in the console in general.

I have two friends who each grabbed a system. One managed to sell his on EBay within the day for $1775 which is a nice little profit. The second can't post it because he does not have enough feedback, which is funny as hell because all he wants is a 360 and not a PS3. So, some success, some failure. That is to be expected.
