| | (Post a comment) » Microsoft Has Success With Xbox 360 Movie-TV DownloadsDespite a rocky launch with massive slowdowns in downloads for the first couple of days, Microsoft's addition of movie and TV episode downloads for the Xbox 360 console is showing signs of success. This Variety story reports that while exact figures have not been revealed, Hollywood studios are saying that video and TV downloads are doing as well or better on Xbox 360 consoles than similar services like CinemaNow, Movielink and Amazon's Unbox service, which are available on more widely available PC platforms. Analysts suggest that the Xbox 360's ease of use, its connection to TVs, and its support of HD downloads are part of the reason for its success. Even though it takes several hours to download an HD movie or TV episode via Xbox Live, the article states that more people choose the HD version over the standard version. | Previous news article | Back to main news | Next news article |

| Damn straight! Someone should start an online petition or letter/email campaign.
Hey M$soft You want to secure #1 in this round of the console wars? Scrap the core system (or drop to $199), come out with a version that has an 80GB HD (just to top Sony's 60), build in Wifi, and sell for $449.99 (or bundle in a decent game and extra controller for $499.99)
Hotness.
Or just come out with an 80 or 100GB drive for $100.
I think if Bill just admits his mistake (HD was WAY too small to begin with) and correct it he could PERMANENTLY leave Sony scrambling for 2nd place (fighting off a very capable Nintendo Wii).
Halo 3 alone is going to guarantee him about 4-10 million console sales.» Login to reply to this Eclipse (436) Dec 22, 2006 - 10:59 am
| | I'd rather just plug an external USB hard drive into one of the USB ports on the system. Too bad they don't support that feature for movies and TV shows... » Login to reply to this |

| | I doubt the petition is necessary. They know a bigger harddrive is needed. Its just a matter of how big, how much money, and when to roll it out. They sell their small 20gb hd for $100 now, so I'm anxious to see what they'll charge for a big one. Hopefully they lower their prices. » Login to reply to this LoathyMcGee (27) Dec 25, 2006 - 08:54 pm
| Hey, um, Anonymous? The premium isn't $499. It never was $499. It's $399.
Now, despite my suspicion that, because you conveniently exaggerated a number to support a point, you're far, far from impartial and that anything I say will fall on deaf ears (or eyes, as the case may be), one can't deny that at the very least, (Core stupidity notwithstanding) Microsoft offers you a choice.
If you just want to play 360 games, get the core. If you want to play (some) OG Xbox games and play on Live and such, get the premium. If you want to watch HD-DVD movies, get the add-on. And, theoretically, if you want to store boatloads of TV shows and Movies on there, get the bigger hard drive. My point is that Sony forces you to swallow the whole package, or nothing at all, and there are a lot of people out there that couldn't care less about downloading movies (Netflix is cheaper), couldn't care less about Hi-Def movies (many don't appreciate the difference, or care enough to pay for it), and surprise, there are quite a few (though increasingly rare) people out there that could care less about playing online (Not having to listen to 10th grade kids with 5th grade vocabularies hiding behind a mask of anonymity.)

| | wow what a bargain the xbox 360 is. $499 for the premium, another $200 for hd-dvd and even more $ for a hard drive larger than the 20gb. » Login to reply to this |
