| » Standard batteries a weakness? In my experience with electronics such as digital cameras, a proprietary rechargable battery is always a hinderance. They are good for a while, but their life diminishes after a year or so and eventually the battery gets in the way. Ever buy a new cell phone where you can go a week without charging it but within a year you're lucky to get three days between charges? That's what I'm describing. And when a video game controller becomes unresponsive even a little, it's practically worthless.
In all applications possible, I use rechargable AA or AAA batteries. For cameras, state of the art rechargable NiMH batteries typically have an excellent life span but are replacable on a whim for when their life span inevitably starts decreasing.
In conclusion, I see the use of AAs as a strength rather than a weakness. Do what people with digital cameras do--Forget the alkaline batteries and get some nice rechargable batteries. They only cost about $1.50 or $2.00 a piece, so they're not much more expensive to begin with. Keep a few extras so you can swap them quickly during extended gaming or a party or whatever rather than waiting for hours to recharge. The usage of standard batteries is a definite advantage if exploited properly.» Login to reply to this |

| This sounds like a fair review. I want one and the reason is Zelda. Its a class game as is their other Premier titles. I have the game, currently without a console.
Nintendo have to get themselves into gear and make enough and soon. Otherwise that media critical mass that they have managed to garner will fizzle like a broken sparkler and go the way of the Gamecube.» Login to reply to this |

| Most people don't know if they're watching HD broadcasting on their HDTV, so if the graphics are acceptable (i.e. not stick men) very few people will notice. Just to give an example, my thesis was on HD broadcasting. I made a poll to see how many people had HDTVs and a very common mistake was to mix 16:9 (widescreen) TVs with HDTVs even though I specifically asked people to check "HDTV" logo on their sets.
I believe the most relevant question will be if Nintendo can keeep up the demand and interest in Wii? It is the first time in my life I have paid for a console and the only way to make me, a 32 year old who hasn't held a joystick in his hands for 15 years, to keep happy (=buy more games) would be to offer immersive games with real plots, more interaction, etc., I am not sure only HD graphics (which existed for PCs for a decade now and look at the decline in sales) would ensure sales for PS3 and Xbox 360. So far Nintendo went with a blue ocean strategy, if they are dominate the market truely then they also need content that is bold and groundbreaking (sorry for the long post).» Login to reply to this |
