(Post a comment) » Dell & NVidia 64MB DDR GeForce 256NVidia Corporation announced that it has set a new industry milestone by
being first to offer 64 MB Double Data Rate (DDR) Synchronous RAM graphics
solutions, similar to it's professional level Quadro.
Working with the leading DDR manufacturers Hyundai and Infineon, NVidia's 64
MB DDR GeForce 256-based add-in cards are currently available through Dell
Computer Corporation, with strings attached, unfortunately.
Let's hope we hear some official words about NVidia's Spring Refresh part(s)
soon, as that's where the action is. | Previous news article | Back to main news | Next news article |

Yo, Yoshi...
Okay...people...Dell is different now. They can make killer gaming
rigs if you ask them to. they can burn in some nice FPS and are
convinient with good tech support and parts. my friend's p3 800
with the GeForce 64MB is friggin awesome. as for upgrading...buy a
new case. and move parts from old dell into new case. its not that
hard people. you can swap stuff around and replace parts...you just
void the warranty, so do it unless you aren't gonna ever take it
back to dell again. there. and since you don't have a warranty
when you build it yourself, what's the F-ing difference?

I purchased a Dell, and I haven't had one problem with it, it is a
solid machine and is fast as hell. It came with a p3 800, 128 MB
Rdram, 40 gig hard drive, 64 mb DDR Geforce, SB live, 48x cdrom,
etc. Trust me the card is worth every penny. I am running games at
resolutions I didn't know exsisted and buying a computer through
dell was probably 800 dollars cheaper than building it, trust me I
looked into it, they under cut everything. The card kicks $$$. You
don't have to get the gigahertz chip to buy the geforce either you
just have to buy a new computer and ask for it (call them don't buy
it online)

the PLUS card is just the same as the other geforce the only
difference is it has a DVI output (supports plasma screen type
monitors) and the other one doesn't.

It would be about $100 more. Still I think that waiting for a V5
would be the way to go if you where going to spend that kind of
money. Mostly the geforce sells itself using T&L that few games
use. The V5 chips will all be faster than it.

Does anyone know if the "GeForce Plus" Dell lists is a
DDR? I know the specsheet says "32MB SDRAM" but could it
be a typo?
The reason for asking, is a friend and I were trying to estimate how
much 64MB DDRs will cost on the retail market once they are
released.
Currently, the "Plus" board is a $130 upgrade from the
normal 32MB SDR board. The 64MB DDR is a $240 upgrade. If the
"plus" is indeed a fancy SDR board, doesn't that mean the
64 DDR will only cost about $100 or so more than a 32MB DDR?
Well I know it's hard to compare prices like that but...
The original argument started when he claimed a 64MB DDR would
probably cost nearly as much as a 4-chip voodoo VSA-100, which I
don't think it would.

ah, $990 for a 1ghz processor seems reasonable. I think I'll buy it
if i can find it. As for that Nurotek guy saying that intel wouldnt
sell it for less that amd is, he was dead wrong.

I have to agree with post number 15. I feel that making your own
computer gives you a love for your system you will never get from a
Dell. A Dell computer is like a dumb blond they might be fun but
after a while you find yourself bored with it and want something
new. With a home built you can change it and with a Dell you are
stuck with it (kind of like marrige).
As for post 14 motion blur is good. It would work great for the Hast
rune in Q3A, for a magical affect in a game (like teleport) or for a
game that uses in game video for cut sceens (like Rainbow 6). Though
it shouldn't be used in a in a FPS all the time. The last thing I
want is a blury target to shoot.
