» 3dfx to Rampage Through the Year

After missing IDF, 3dfx sent word that the U.S. debut of the VSA-100 processor at the 2000 Game Developers Conference (GDC), March 8-12. The company also announced activities surrounding Immersion 2000, 'The New Generation', 3dfx's annual developer relations and education event, and the 3dfx-sponsored 'Rampage Through the Year' 2000 GDC Opening Night Party.

Immersion 2000  - 'The New Generation'  Registered 3dfx developers will be able to have the first look at specifications for 3dfx's next-generation processor, codename, "Rampage," under NDA ... 3dfx will continue developer education on Rampage and a number of other topics including the next generation of texture shading, API's and special effects, throughout GDC...

Ah ha! So, it does look like 3dfx has been cooking up something new in their labs!

I really think that with yhe RAMPAGE 3dfx is going to have such as
with the voodoo1 the best graphic card because NVIDIA is
compettitive only in the paper .the geforce 2 is too much expensive
and the performance are not as important as they said.NVIDIA
SUCKS,3DFX WILL BE SOON THE LEADER

3dfx was good by the time they released the original voodoo graphics
chip... that was one of the most awesome leaps in gaming hardware
ever, and we all have to thank 3dfx for it, probably if it werent
for them, we wouldnt be seeing all we're seeing today.

However, they didnt know how to hold their position. They just
rested on the success of their first technology and didnt really
innovate from there, opening the door to companies like nvidia to
(thank god) take 3d graphics further.

Its not surprising that 3dfx stock has been droping like a meteors
while nvidia's has been on a "rampage"!

The guys at nvidia have been pushing for some really awesome
technology, something actually useful, like the GPU concept to
offload gfxs processing from the CPU, while 3dfx concentrates their
efforts on completely useless stuff like that t-buffer thing!

Nvidia has been releasing new technology every year, improving on it
6 months later, always pushing it further with new and improved chip
designs...

In the meantime 3dfx is just basically adding stuff to their aging
voodoo chip, and for performance, instead of finding new, more
efficient designs, they just add more chips running together in SLI!
...there will be a day when they just wont be able to add more chips
because the card just wont fit in the case anymore... what will they
do then? ...offer a case extention, like they're doing with that
ridiculous external power supply now?

As it stands now, i will have to say that my money will go to the
next nvidia card and not to 3dfx

hey guys get out of this 3dfx nvidia crap and take a look at ATI's
new baby!

i think it will beat the crap out of all the other cards when it
comes out in 3 months.

Even though the geforce is the buzz lately. You guys go ahead and
waste $300 on a card where the technology might not even going to be
use widely (T&L) or a new T&L engine might replace the old,
then you be sorry you bought a geforce. V5 is better ... you buy the
card ... you use all of the hardware crap.

anyone that thinks 3dfx will just go away is pretty stupid. 3dfx is
one of the leading companies in video cards. Its like saying Intel
will be crush when the next Amd chip come out.

Lets wait and see what this card really is. I have gotten tired of
all these wars over what is better. How do you guys find out what is
going to be better without any specs on it? Are you guys running
benchmarks on newspages or something? Geez this press release gave
me a fps of 120 and the that one gave me one of 117 so that card
must be faster....

Do you guys relize how lame it is?

As for what I said earlier wait tell the benchmarks come out. I feel
pretty sure that 8 V2's are going to be twice as fast as even the V5
6000.

When the V4/V5 comes out, i just know Tom's Hardware will trash the
hell out of it, no matter how good it is. As many of you know, Tom
is highly biased against 3dfx. I dunno how much money he is gettin
paid but it seems he is Nvidia's &@$!& now.
