| » PS3's problem? Blu-Ray! If it were not for the Blu-Ray debacle PS3 would be worth owning. Sony has paid a TON of money to advertise that this is a plus, but it's not. Blu-Ray is truely a mistake both for games, and movies. Anyone who thinks moving the data 80% closer to the surface and closer to the laser is a good thing, has a lot of loss ahead of them as their media destroys itself in a short few years. All plastic media has a life, Blu-Ray is much much shorter than CD or DVD media due to change Sony made in the format. And, don't buy the "protective coating" bull either, so far Sony has not shipped any discs with this coating on it. It's too EXPENSIVE! Also, the storage plus? Not that much of a plus after all. HD-DVD discs can hold 8 hours of HD movies, Blu-Ray can hold... only 9! 1 hour difference. Only about 12% more. And for SD movies, HD-DVD actually holds more. The reason is Sony won't use the new encodings properly due to their DRM mess, which is much more heavier and cumbersom than HD-DVD causing all kinds of head-aches for some movies. Is this really worth a $200 premium on the PS3? No. And the public so far agrees as PS3 sales have all but dried up.» Login to reply to this |

BR is a mainstream feature. NOw definitley there's a chance it could fail, but it's not going to be because it folks don't want hi-def movies. They do. Very hard to believe folks want hi-def tv, and sports, vidgames and then settle for lesser resolution movies.
Cds did have a format to compete against. TApes and mini-disc.
PS2 had competition. The Dreamcast sold millions b4 the PS2 was even launched.
Sure the PS3 may never become a big hit. But there's more of a chance for it to sell well in the end than for it to not sell at all.
The point is no picture after less than 3 months is an accurate way of looking at a console's chances. YOu complain about these faults of the PS3 and they are valid, but successful consoles have had these same faults before.
So I think you have to see that the 'worst case' for the PS3 is right now when it lacks games out of the gate and when not many yet have heard of BR. Also the PS3 sold more in 2k6 than the 360 did in 2k5.» Login to reply to this |

| Nothing stopping a developer from using the analog stick on the wiimote for steering in a racing game if they really wanted to.
I think the tilting functionality is fine. IT can be programmed as sensitive as developers want it to be.
Also nothing stopping a developer from using the wiimote basically like a joypad in most any other game. You don't have to use motion controls.
You're right that you can 'cheat' in some of these motion control games like WiiSports or SuperSwingGolf. But that's your choice.» Login to reply to this |
