| | (Post a comment) » Gears Of War PC Is Coming...But When?A recent Q&A with Epic Games vice-president Mark Rein at TeamXbox has a quote from him concerning the possiblity of a port of their Xbox 360 action game Gears of War for the PC. His response was, "Eventually we’ll get around to a PC version. I just don’t know when." Apparently the major obstacle is purely technical. Here is a snip:
The big challenge is to make a game that was designed solely for the console…to take advantage of every last little corner of that console, to fill every little crack and run as many threads as we could and do as much to exploit the power of that machine, and make it run well on enough PCs to be worth releasing. That’s a challenge. UT will help us there, because Unreal Tournament 3 will be kind of our vanguard PC product, and it’s helping us get optimization on the PC. So it’s just a matter of, now, can we make Gears run on enough PCs that it’s worth selling…or do we have to wait in five years until everyone has a PC that can run it? |  Previous news article | Back to main news | Next news article  |

Look, if people are willing to dramatically shift most or all of their hardware to Windows Vista compatible hardware just to run it (and Vista could end up as a flop), then why do you think they aren't willing to replace their hardware to run Gears of War? It's a high-end game, but people LOVE it! And I don't own an Xbox 360, so I can't play it, so I REALLY hope for it to come out soon. Just use the 360's spec's as a cornerstone for system requirements. Besides, Vista supports Xbox 360 controllers, so why not match it with a kick ass PC and the best game ever?!» Login to reply to this |
