  • Congrats to all of the winners and thanks to everyone who has entered the contest so far. Thanks also to all the FiringSquad readers who have voted for their favorites. It's not over yet, however. The second portion of our first preliminary round begins on Wednesday and if you haven't entered yet or didn't make the top 15 this time you can enter your articles, editorials, reviews and more from Wednesday until Feb. 28. The top 15 entries from that round join today's winners in the second round where things will get a bit tougher. And we still have our video challenge as well which is ongoing. Head to that FiringSquad Matrix cluster for more info.

Will the judges be offering any criticisms of the articles? The introductory article states that FS will be featuring a few articles every day, but so far all I've seen is the first update. Also, I still find the scoring system rather confusing.

Well I was 26... I actually received some good comments from the editors of FS and I realized that my fault was not my writing but it was my subject. Its better for maybe a news story on TV for those who don't play games but not for FiringSquad readers.

I believe I could've went up a few ranks to say 20 if I put effort in self-promotion, but I felt too lazy and decided to focus on the 2nd round.

The subject is a very important part of the discussion, but one way to avoid this all together (and writers will say this) is to not start with a topic at all and kind of go at your own pace about what you feel should be voiced.

Even if it comes out as a garbled up, strange piece of work you will still get complimented on your originality.

Who would have thought the paintings from that of Picasso would be worth what they are for what they are.

Congrats to everyone who made it.

I didn't expect to finish so low after reading the author's comments, but will take their advice and hope to improve in the second prelim.

I am just worried that with my aging machine I will not be able to review some of the more recent games that would be solid attention getters.
