 Tiger Woods Out...Until August!

| | (Post a comment) » People Still Line Up To Get The WiiWhile most of the media attention has been on the iPhone these past few weeks, another home electronics product is still continuing to generate long lines at stores that carry them with near instant sell-outs. The product is, of course, Nintendo's Wii console, and this AP story via Yahoo reports that this morning a line of 100 people were waiting outside the New York City Nintendo store to get their hands on the still hard-to-find console. Here is a snip:
Back in April, Nintendo President Satoru Iwata acknowledged an "abnormal" Wii shortage. Since then, the company has increased production "substantially" to help meet worldwide demand, said spokeswoman Perrin Kaplan.
But Nintendo also has to manage its inventory, said Colin Sebastian, an analyst with Lazard Capital Markets."Unfortunately you can't ask a contract manufacturer to make a million a month, then 5 million," he said.
At some point, of course, supply will catch up with demand. But some analysts don't see this happening until next year. "I don't think by the holidays," Sebastian said. "But maybe by the middle of next year, perhaps they can add another production line."

| | Why they are bothering I know not. The system's not that impressive, nor is the current software lineup. (People talk about the PS3's lack of good games...) Hopefully things will speed up later with MP3 and SSB Brawl. » Login to reply to this

| | Zelda alone trumps the entire PS3 lineup by leaps and bounds. MP3 is just around the corner, as is Smash Bros. And that's not counting Paper Mario, Tiger Woods and Madden. But the real draw of the console is anyone can play it. When I went to my in-law's house for Christmas this last year we took our Wii. There were lines to play just the little Wii Sports game, her Grandma (84) was LOVING the bowling. That right there makes it far more successful than any other console in history. It's lasting qualities shine because it's geared for everyone, not just gamers. Think iPod vs Every other MP3 player. It's accessable and has the hype now, it will outsell the other consoles easily on that alone. » Login to reply to this w00t (937) Jul 01, 2007 - 10:26 pm

Yes, and that's the problem. Wii is a one trick pony named "Wii sports". There are a couple games with the same gameplay, but the rest of the Wii lineup is bombing *hard* (Zelda included).
It's to the point that Nitendo may not make a sequel to many of the non Wii-sports-like games, because they are a lot more expensive to develop and they sell an awful lot less.» Login to reply to this Decoy911 (76) Jul 01, 2007 - 11:47 pm
| You sir, sound like you have yet to even play a Wii. Did your friends not invite you over? The Wii lineup is bombing hardcore.. Umm.. Which planet do you live on, cause on this thing we call planet Earth, the Wii is dominating every other console in weekly and/or monthly sales (save for the DS which is on another entire level of success).
FF series moving to Wii? Probably. Dragons Quest already has. Then there's stuff like Manhunt 2 (if it's ever even released) coming to Wii instead of the other overpriced consoles.
Tell you what, I'll take the $250 system and 5-7 additional games (which are $10 lower per title than other next-gen systems) for the price of a PS3/360 any day. And let's not forget the failure rates of the 360s. What was it, that guy on his 12th unit in less than a year? Wow, quality control Microsoft, quality control.» Login to reply to this |

| | too bad zelda is also on the gamecube, all those other games suck, and bowling is fun for under an hour. give me some games that are worth the insane prices and i'll buy one. so far, the ps3 has more games that interest me personally, but that may be because i don't have the mind of a 12 year old. » Login to reply to this |
