 Tiger Woods Out...Until August!

| | (Post a comment) » Removed: FSAA Comparison: V5500/ GF2If you're looking for our first FSAA comparison article, we've decided to yank it from the site. After a good deal of internal discussion today, we decided on this course of action because the protocols used in the first article were not the best possible way to base a comparison. As mentioned before, we're working on a new comparison test involving two identically configured machines, sitting side by side.
FSAA is a very complex topic, and it's certainly a feature that cannot be characterized, measured, or compared by any traditional means. Because of that, we're going to handle the new article with even more care and attention than anything we've ever done before. FiringSquad is committed to providing the highest quality content. We're not going to be satisfied with anything less than our best possible effort. | Previous news article | Back to main news | Next news article |

Devil, what are you talking about, they have already improved at
medium to high resolutions. 1024x768 32bit the gts is 2.7 fps
faster and at 1600x640 the gts is only .7 fps faster. After
looking at the 640x480 numbers where the gts wins 155fps to
127 fps, you can see that these drivers still need a lot of work
because they don't make any sence. This is running a GTS with
a T&L game. When you consider the fact that the V5 doesn't
support T&L, this shows the the V5 has a lot more brute power
the the GTS. This shows that with games that don't use T&L the
GTS just will be left behind by the V5 5500. As i've been saying
for weeks, just wait till the board the final board with final
drivers
are released. The V5 5500 will be 2nd only to the V5 6000.

In my defense, I gotta say that the card is pre-release and the
drivers are pre-release, but it still doesn't change the fact that I
get a choice of all the cards and I play Q3A and Halflife
(counterstrike) across a 100mbits LAN with 20 other people and the
card that is the fastest gets put in my machine....and that happens
to be a GTS2...maybe the Voodoo5 board and drivers might improve (I
doubt it) and if it does I'll get one and stick that in , but whislt
I'm getting 40 fps more from the GTS2 I'll use that........duhh duh
duh!!!!!!! Incidently if the FSAA is turned on in counterstrike it
causes HUGE frame lag, e.g. You flick the mouse round and the
display doesn't move for .1 secs.
Oh, have you gone quiet mister "I can make judgement on
hardware I haven't touched" anonymous man???????

Hey,
Thanks for posting the link to the review. Very interesting
indeed.
Any response Devil? Or would you like to post your benchmarks on a
reputable site as well? Thought so...
I'm not biased either way, but it seems to me this is great news for
gamers. Both cards seem pretty @$%$ close, with Nvidia holding
SLIGHT speed advantage and 3dfx owning FSAA. If more T&L games
were out (or coming out shortly) it would be even better, but since
FSAA is so beneficial (and Nvidia FSAA doesn't work in Direct3D as
of yet) it appears 3dfx is in fact back in the game.
Sorry doom and gloomers, but you'll soon realize that having TWO
heavyweights dueling it out on pretty even ground benefits gamers to
the max.
I'm still waiting to decide which card I'll get, but the V5-5500 has
inched back into the lead (especially since I play more than Q3A).
I can't wait for more of both cards to hit the shelves in quantity
and the next set of drivers for each :). Time will tell...

with that turned of it craps on anything out there.as someone with
an article above saying g1 ddr beats the voodoo 5 there fricken
liars.i'm gettin a v5 5000.and that will be better than g1.since the
voodoo 5 out thee are only pre-release beta board beta drivers so

You gotta bear in mind here that I don't own any of this stuff, the
company I work for does, and there has been major wars over who was
gonna get the VooDoo 5500's when they came in, that was till we
tested them and they sucked so we all put GeForce DDR's back in. We
were also having competitions of "who could touch the voodoo5
for longest without our fingers melting" my effort only lasted
3 seconds.....only clocked at 166Mhz as well....they were supposed
to be 200Mhz...I don't think that the cards would have lasted for
long. I'm gonna go play with the free stuff Nvidia gave me....they
at least, don't suck.

removed..
I'm planning to buy a new g-gard soon. I mostly play q3 and q2 but
some other game is played sometimes also of course.
Which card shall I buy? Voodoo5 5500 or Geforce2 GTS (32mb) ?
(I'm planing to overclock the card as well)
