 Tiger Woods Out...Until August!

| | (Post a comment) » Removed: FSAA Comparison: V5500/ GF2If you're looking for our first FSAA comparison article, we've decided to yank it from the site. After a good deal of internal discussion today, we decided on this course of action because the protocols used in the first article were not the best possible way to base a comparison. As mentioned before, we're working on a new comparison test involving two identically configured machines, sitting side by side.
FSAA is a very complex topic, and it's certainly a feature that cannot be characterized, measured, or compared by any traditional means. Because of that, we're going to handle the new article with even more care and attention than anything we've ever done before. FiringSquad is committed to providing the highest quality content. We're not going to be satisfied with anything less than our best possible effort. | Previous news article | Back to main news | Next news article |

Devil, you full of it. Where's the proof. So all the reviews
benchmarks are wrong and yours is right? There isn't
one review out there that shows the GTS beating the V5
with fsaa enabled. Your system must suck or some
thing. lol

to "Devil":
12 fps at 1600x1200 with fsaa 2x is actually quite good considering
the card is at max fillrate.
fsaa is designed to make 800x600 (or 1024x768) nicer to play rather
than squinting to read the text with 1600x1200
I personally still play at 16bit as it gives me the best frame
rates. I still own a TnT1 and other not so popular games (like
drakan etc) play very smoothly on this card. Only games that push
cards to their limits do you notice the difference.
I have a duel celeron 550 (366 o/c) system and with this setup I can
play anything at 800x600 with no framerate drop below 35.. ever :)

You think I'm lying huh???
I'm not saying who I work for, but trust me, the VooDoo 5500 sucks
$%!
I only got 3415 3d marks on an athlon 700 (with 3dfx'z supposidly
secret drivers), and my athlon 750 with DDR gets 4500 with #%%%
drivers....wot does that tell ya huh.........even at 1600x1200x32bit
Quake3 slowed down to 12 fps with FSAA x2 (at one point 3 fps on
demo 1).......now go buy one I dare ya!!!

I don't understand why people keep on bashing Nvidia for their
6month cycle. People keep on thinking that every product cycle
Nvidia is gonna bring a new revolutionary product or something.
That isn't how the 6month cycle works though. Every year they
introduce a new product in the first cycle and then they introduce a
souped up version of that product in the second cycle.
If you think about it 3dfx is kinda like that too. Instead of
giving you a new product every year in the first cycle and a then a
souped up version in the second cycle, they just give you both in
the second cycle ala V4 and V5.
If you don't want to shell out money for an new product every 6
months then just don't buy it and quit your whining.

one last thing for #156.
I agree with you about half of the posts about your is bigger then
mine BS. I'm writing these posts because I got tired of reading
all the 3dfx bashing when no one want to address why Nvidia
about why they bring out a new card that has bechmarks almost
the same as the old card. With better T&L that you can'y use.
At least The V5 beta is much better then 3dfx's last card as was
all there cards. the V2 was much better then V1. The V3 was
better the V2 SLI with 2d. They had problems with the rush
because they relied on someone else making the 2d chip, and
banshee was basicly a V2 with 2d but everyone knew that before
it came out. No lies or !!!!##!@. I just wish Nvidia would get
some heat for all that they do wrong. Remember, before 3dfx
came along they where the company who used to try and sell
us $300 cards that were slow as hell like the SEGA Diamond
cards and the riva cards. They have been making PC 3D cards
longer then anyone by about 3 years. It was 3dfx who showed us
the light and so many people hate them, why. I don't know but
if you really look at those Q3 benchmarks that use T&L and see
that the V5 holds it own on a celeron 450 and on P3 600's and
higher basicly matches the gts at 1024x768 and can beat it at
higher resolutions, then you should be impressed. Turn the T&L
off and see what happens to the GTS with its bogus 1.6 gigapixels.
My last post. I'll wait till the V5 5500 is released and buy one.
Then i can have the best of both worlds. Great FPS and the best
FSAA. Seeing how i play unreal tornament more then quake3 and
I like lots of other kind of games also, this is the be

lol. for #156. Your talking about profits. Do you remember that
3dfx
STB? Thats where those profit stats came from. When your talking
about revenue, please show me where you get those stats from:
Nvidia
Revenues = $375 million?
Profits = $38 million (gain)
3dfx
Revenues = $362 million ?
Profits = $-63 million (loss)
Seeing how the best selling 3d cards over the last year are:
1. V3 2000 PCI
2. V3 2000 AGP
3. V3 3000 PCI
4. V3 3000 AGP
Everyone must have seen these stats over the last year, they
have been posted on sites everywhere over the last year.
Now #156. over a year ago you would have been right, in pc
video card sales ATI was king and they still do sell the most
oem under $900 systems but now most of thier money comes
from apple oems sales. pc oem is low end ATI, with V3 and
TNT2 on the higher end. Only the die hard gaming systems
have the Gforce and they are on a very small part of the market.
where 3dfx has taken ati IN THE PC Market (not including mac)
is in store sales. example: If some one wants an all in one
card it used to be the all in wonder pro, now its the V3 3500.
If anyone who's reading this site had to buy a card with built in
TV, if you had to, the only real chose would be the V3 3500.
Any finally #156 again. Your way off. The TNT series started
with the tnt vs the V2 (not the V3) and the V2 won because
of SLI. Even people who didn't get both cards still bought
them for the SLI option. Back them the V2 SLI was king of
the hill. Even when they were $299 each they out sold the
TNT, when they dropped

Doesn't anyone pay attention to pixel popping? Pixel popping can
single handedly ruin an otherwaise nice 3D scene. The V5's FSAA
(wheather 2x or 4x) totally gets rid of all pixel popping, something
the geforce cannot do.
