| | (Post a comment) » E3 2007: Postal 3 ImpressionsIt's one of the most controversial game series of all time and during E3, the developers at Running With Scissors and Akella gave FiringSquad a very brief demo of Postal 3, the next game in their action game series.
The demo itself was mainly the Postal Dude, now in third person mode, running around the game's fictional city. Postal 3 is using Valve's Source Engine but it's clear that this game will look and feel very different than other Source Engine based games. The real life settings and art textures give the game a distinct look that makes is visually look dissimilar to the slick look of Half-Life 2. As in Postal 2 it looks like the player will be able to interact with pretty much everyone in the game landscape. Running with Scissors head Vince Desi told us that there will be 150 distinct characters in Postal 3 with thousands of lines of dialogue in total. Desi told us that there will also be a tutorial mode before getting into th e game itself because many players of Postal 2 were unaware of the game's open world game design.
The demo had some interaction; the Postal Dude could shoot at individual bottles in a grocery store and they fall or shatter realistically. However the main new item we got to see is one of the game's new weapons; the badger saw. Imagine a living chain saw with a real (for the game) badger who is held by the Postal via handles. The badger can eat off human heads pretty effectively. Other weird weapons are planned and Desi told us that drivable vehicles will also be put into Postal 3 and hinted that they will be as different as Postal 3's badger saw or Postal 2's cat launcher.
Desi told us that in addition to the Postal Dude, people will be able to play as the Postal Babe, who will be modeled after Playboy Playmate Jennifer Walcott. In addition there will be three modes of play in single player mode; Good (join the police force); Bad (become a corrupt cop); and Insane (we will keep that mode a secret for now). Desi told us that several celebrities have signed on to appear in Postal 3; when asked if Postal 2's Gary Coleman will return Desi told us that he will make a very brief but memorable appearance.
Desi told us that the game is set for release in the fourth quarter of 2008 or maybe the first quarter of 2009. In the meantime the upcoming Uwe Boll directed Postal movie is due for release in October and we got to see the first two minutes of the film and we can guarantee that those two minutes will be some of the most talked about sequences in recent movie history. | Previous news article | Back to main news | Next news article |
