Bungie knows how to update its Halo 3 community; its weekly updates are entertaining to read even if sometimes they don't really have a lot of cool info. This week's Bungie update is one of the types where there is some interesting info as it reports that their upcoming Xbox 360 sci-fi shooter Halo is is now 99.9 percent complete. Of course that final .1 percent is pretty critical as the team polishes and finds the final bugs in the game that's due for release on September 25. It also reveals plans for Bungie Pro which actually sounds really cool. Here is a snip:

You saw the basics of this during the public beta: custom game and map variants, screenshots, saved films and film clips can all be uploaded to your personal (but public) file share on our servers. The current plan is that everyone with a copy of Halo 3 and an Xbox Live Gold account gets 6 slots where you can place up to 25MB of these files to share with the world. Saved films take up the most space, and 25MB should be enough to hold several longish 16-player games. We don't think the average user will be hurting for space.

"But wait!" you exclaim, "I'm not a merely *average* user! I plan to win every motion picture award there is with my exquisitely choreographed, epic-length saved films!" And *that* is where Bungie Pro comes in. "Bungie Pro?" you ask, an eyebrow raised. "I'm listening." While we can't give huge amounts of free storage to every one of our users, (note that unlike webmail sites, Bungie.net remains ad-free,) we're happy to accommodate power users with a premium storage option that we've dubbed Bungie Pro. Inside your file share, you'll find a button that will lead to an Xbox Live Marketplace panel, offering you a one-year "subscription" to Bungie Pro for a planned 750 Points. Buy this, and for the following year, your file share will balloon to 24 slots and 250MB. At the end of the year, you'll be asked to either re-subscribe, or else bring your share back under the default limit before you can upload new content. (750 Points comes to about 78 cents per month, by the way.)

There also new screenshots from Halo 3 that we have reproduced here.

Um no it wont,it will be popular but its not all that. Its still a game that caters to the sub teen/teenagers out there and not the true hardcore gaming age group that actually buy the good games. I see COD4,Bioshock and UT3 being more popular on consoles, Crysis on PC will be the game of the year for any system. Halo is for kiddies with kiddie graphics with all those jaggies, you can have it!

Halo 1 & 2 were popular because Bungie figured out what idSoftware didn't with Doom 3. Namely that gameplay is better with a larger number of lower polygon enemies onscreen than with a smaller number (usually 1 for Doom3) of highly detailed enemies. Which is another way of saying that gameplay trumps eye candy.

This game will break every console sales record. If that's not bad enough, Bungie and MS are finding ways for us to part with more of our cash. Damn you both to heck....still can't wait for this game though.

It could break First Day/Week records, but I don't think it'll be outselling Super Mario Bros. 3.

That said, I heard somewhere that it could bring in more money on the first day than Spiderman 3 brought in opening weekend.
