| CoD4 is a much better console FPS than Halo imo.
I've just never found Halo that appealing (I bought both 1 and 2 and only played a couple of weeks) and I've always felt that's it's popularity has a lot to do with the lack of choice (atleast in the beginning) when it comes to FPSs on consoles. That and Microsoft's uber-hype and publicity machine.» Login to reply to this |

| » I have to add to this... ..to all the people that hate on Halo simply because it's Halo/not a PC game..
..if it was a bad game I could see why you would hate it, but with the average score of Halo 3 being around 9.5 (and parts 1 and 2 scoring pretty well also) I would have to say the game doesn't suck. Bottom line.
Is it the be all end all? Not to me. To some people I am sure it is/will be. Then again there are people to whom Madden is everything. There are people to whom GTAx is everything. There are people to whom Final Fantasy is everything, and so on and so on.
I DO think it will be a really good game though, and I look forward to getting my copy tonight (if I feel up to going to the Mall at midnight..sigh..)
If Halo was an awful game then Halo 2 wouldn't still be one of the most played (if not THE most played game) on XBOX Live. Then again the Halo haters would call Halo fans noobs or something childish and act like they are superior (although it does come from both sides, but I do tend to see it coming from mainly the PC side)
Most PC only guys (or Sony fanboys) hate on Halo. Most Halo fans pick on the PC guys (although not near as much from what I've seen). A lot of PC guys seem to be so snobby that they can't admit Halo is actually a good game. Which is sad, we are supposed to be GAMERS, right?
I am not a Halo fanboy, but I do like the series. It isn't the greatest game of all time for sure, but I think it's a game that deserved most of the praise it's gotten, but not all.
Few games are perfect as we all know. Most have some flaws (some have WAY more than others), but on the whole the Halo series is definitely a well above average game, without question.
If you don't like it because you are a PC FPS fan, that's understandable, but no need to act like if it isn't on PC then it's crap. I don't necessarily like every game genre, but 99% of the time I'll give a good game it's due.
I've rambled long enough, but to all the people who hate because they are too snobbish to admit game X is a good game, remember..we are supposed to be gamers first and foremost.
Right?

| | To me Halo was not a bad game when I played it on PC but I can't say it was anything more than average in any way. I was after the hype of it very disappointed in the game when I played it, I had expected more than it delivered. So I have a hard time understanding the following that it has but then again it has never been anywhere near the top of the lists when all time PC fps are listed that is probably why most PC gamers bash on it because to them it's just hype that don't deliver. » Login to reply to this |

| » Halo vs. Bioshock??? Bioshock sucked. Sorry, but it was extremely repetitive and very boring.
Halo has always been a pinnacle for all FPS games, either on consoles or on the PC. Those that respond it to be "boring" or "over-hypes" are usually easily tagged as PS2/3 fanbois, without exception. Few games before, or since (especially since) have lived up to the extreme hype or even created such a stir as Halo.
For me personally, Halo's the only single player FPS I've ever had the desire to play more than once. Most who play it feel the same. If you must be "special" and disagree, at least don't be such a goob about it.» Login to reply to this Don Koharski (18) Sep 25, 2007 - 08:26 am
| I do find the combat against the Covenant (not the Flood) and the vehicles in the Halo games fun.
As for Bioshock being repetitive and boring in comparison, what about all of the Halo cut and paste levels, especially the Library? You can turn off the "where do I go now arrow" in Bioshock, but in Halo, the arrows are always on. There's also arrows embedded in the ground as part of the level, because every room and hallway looks te same.» Login to reply to this |

| "Halo has always been a pinnacle for all FPS games, either on consoles or on the PC."
Half-Life, Quake, Team Fortress, SOCOM, MGS....any of these ringing any bells?
"Those that respond it to be "boring" or "over-hypes" are usually easily tagged as PS2/3 fanbois, without exception."
I think it's extremely over-hyped and I don't even own a PS2/PS3. In fact, I own a 360 and have no intention of getting it.
"Few games before, or since (especially since) have lived up to the extreme hype or even created such a stir as Halo."
Refer to list above, but go ahead and add in Final Fantasy, Doom, Medal of Honor, Call of Duty, Grand Theft Auto etc etc etc...

It's the internet; it's full of 'goobs' and proud of it. Maybe you shouldn't take every negative comment about YOUR favorite game series as an indictment of your self-worth. It's just a game.» Login to reply to this BubbaT (160) Sep 24, 2007 - 11:37 am
| First of all, Socom and MGS aren't even FPS. I'm surprised you didn't mention Guitar Hero and Tetris. MGS2 was as much a disappointment as Halo 2, both largely owing to their lame secondary playable characters (Arbiter, Raiden).

Did you stop playing Doom after Doom 2? Did you stop playing MoH after Allied Assault? Did you completely miss FFs XI, X-2, and Dirge of Cerberus?
Or are you just high?» Login to reply to this

| Hmm, Halo might be the pinnacle of console gaming, but for the FPS genre I can't see anything beating the Half Life series.
Halo 1 had probably the best single player campaign for a console FPS. Halo 2's single player was really boring, but the multiplayer was insane fun. Maybe they got them both right this time.
But the Half Life series is the king of the mountain for the FPS genre as a whole. Be exciting to see what Bungie does next. I'm sure they are sick of working on Halo.» Login to reply to this |
