» Gigabyte X38-DQ6 Review

With support for 1600MHz FSB speeds, PCI Express 2.0, and full 16-lane CrossFire, Gigabyte's X38-DQ6 looks impressive on paper. In practice, we were actually able to hit FSB speeds of 2.0GHz! See why we were so impressed with this motherboard in this review!

» "USB headers"...
Just wanna enlighten on a "minor" typo in the review; There are in fact two USB headers on this motherboard. A USB header is the connector on the MB that is used to connect brackets with additional USB ports on it. I assume you mean that no USB brackets are shipped with the board when you write "We just wish they included a couple of USB headers inside the board’s packaging so we could use the full 12 USBs provided natively by the chipset".

Aside from the typo it's a very good review, one of the better ones I've read, and it was actually the final piece of external opinion that prompted me to finally order the GA-X38-DQ6.

» Is PCI-e 2.0 just a gimic?
If the 88000 Ultra is CPU bound with the fastest quadcore processor what benefits will I see with a mobo that can push more frame rates? Wont this just increase the gap between CPU and GPU? I suppose that this will now allow lower performing cards that were once not CPU bound to become CPU bound. Is the next gen PCI-e in anticipation of Intel's next gen CPU?

Nice board, but a little too expensive for my tastes. I'm not too worried about the lack of DDR3 support, considering it won't be the next big thing until latency issues are taken care of.

I like seeing Gigabyte making solid motherboards again. I've owned a few in the Socket A era and they were horrible. Heck, i still have a socket 745 in my basement, has nothing but problems and driver issues.

Despite the price, looks like a great motherboard.

IMO the big hit will indeed be PCI-e 2.0, since the new cards are switching technologies. Basically, anyone who buys a brand-spanking new v-card with only a PCI-e 1.1 or 1.0, then they are going to be bottlenecking themselves. Kind of ironic eh?
