Bethesda Softworks sent over a note announced they will release their last downloadable content extra for 2006's fantasy RPG The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion. The download, titled Fighter's Stronghold, will launch on Oct. 15 for both the PC and Xbox 360 versions and for the first week will be free to download. Here is a snip:

Defeat the attacking marauders and become lord of Battlehorn Castle. Located in the Colovian Highlands west of Chorrol, this expansive castle will allow you to live the life of a noble warrior, with private quarters, grand dining hall, wine cellar, barracks, training room and more. And what castle would be complete without a few hidden passages and dark secrets?

Features:

  • A fully detailed castle for you to explore
  • Knights of the True Horn patrol the castle and do your bidding
  • Secret treasure vault
  • Upgrade the furnishings in every area of the castle
  • Hire a vintner to create special wines to enhance your fighting abilities
  • Hire a combat trainer to spar with
  • Hire a taxidermist to craft lifelike trophies for your great hall
  • Purchase an ancient Dwemer Forge that buffs your Armorer skill
  • On the Bethsoft blog site, PR head Pete Hines talks about the possible way they will bring the downloadable content to the PS3 version:

Since we’re talking about DLC, I thought I’d update you with what’s going on with the PS3 version of Oblivion. We are close, very close to working something out to bring Shivering Isles to PS3 owners. That may be in downloadable form via PSN, or as a standalone retail disc, or both. I can’t say definitively yet that it will happen, and I definitely can’t say when. But it’s looking good, and hopefully we’ll have good news soon. Don’t have anything I can tell you about any other DLC, but Shivering Isles is the one we get asked about all the time, so I at least wanted to update folks on that.

    Lots of good things!!!
I like what I read about the PS3 version, since I don't see myself spending many times the game's price on new ever-soon-obsolete PC hardware.
I like what I read about the bots too, the UT bots are the ones I enjoy playing with or against most, they complement teams decently when playing against friends (following orders, being neither godlike solo-playing machines nor braindead targets like so many other bots).

The game is still a great game to play. It will be nice when more content comes out for us. I still wished this wouldve had a multiplayer element, and can you imagine what that wouldve been like?

I dunno, what kinda multi-player are you talking about? If you are talking about MMORPG style, it would probably destroy the feel of the game and make it like any other MMORPG out there. On the other hand, I wouldn't mind if they made the game coop, or just let loose like... 4 players into the world at a time to party up or kill each other. At least it'd be better than having an ai controlled partner which gets in front of 90% of your attacks.
