this isnt the only place to get benchmarks... the only reason they have benchmarks is if you want to buy the video card or not.
Its good to look at high resolutions even though you dont play at them. Just to see the maximum of video card usage preformance and compare.

And if you have the video card already just test your own system.

To be honest i have a 2ms 19 inch lcd and it maxes out at 1280x1024.
(reason for buying this monitor was that older games dont do widescreen good)
I looked for higher resolution lcd 19 inch but couldnt find any... .
With all these low resolution lcd monitors i guess anti-aliasing benchmarks might become more important.(alot of people have 17 inch at same resolution)
Anything higher than 1280x1024 is probably a wide screen resolution for lcd.

I'm not upset brandon. It's just a suggestion because every time I read Firingsquad 1280x1024 resolutions are usually not included. I hope us mainstream people get the same love as the uber high end people. :)

We had this discussion months ago about why we still include low resolutions in benchmarks. It was globally decided to not include them anymore because most people don't play at those resolutions and factors other than video card power influence performance at low resolutions.

Not when majority still play @ 1280x1024 resolution. Most used resolutions are 1280x1024 and 1600x1200. Not 2560x1600

Ok that's nice but we FS is testing video card performance. Pushing them to their limits means high resolutions. You won't learn anything from 1280.

2600xt performing on par with 8800gts? What are you smoking? If you mean 2900xt, I forgive you.

Why doesn't Firingsquad benchmark 1280x1024 resolution? Not everyone has 1600x1200 and up monitors. Lot of us are on 19" screens.

The review didn't have these cards on this particular benchmark. Where are you getting this info? 8600gts is still faster but yeah 2600xt raw performance is getting better than 8600gt and is near 8600gts on newer games now.

Get another job then, if your on a 19' mon still then come out of the stone age. 22 and 24" panels are getting cheaper by the day. Move up with us big boys in 2007/08. COD4 and Crysis just cant be beat running max settings at 1920 x 1200 in all its glory!

I got this LCD monitor last year. Why do I need a new monitor when this one looks fantastic compared to even new ones? I don't know about you but I don't change monitors every year. I'm actually on a widescreen. 1440x900 but it compares to 1280x1024 pixels.

There are many people using this resolution who are on medium range graphics cards like 8600gts, 2600xt, 1950pro. You are forgetting huge chunk of PC industry belongs to this part of the market. Not dual 8800gtx or 2900xt with 30" monitors.

I read firingsquad often and I can't stand web sites who only show 1920x1200 and 2560x1600. Reviewers aren't being realistic.

I think 1280x1024, 1600x1200, 1920x1200 what most people run. Drop the 2560x1600. Barely any people use that resolution.

Most people play @1600/1200 that I know and I play @ 2560/1600 with a 30" monitor and 99.9% of the PC gamers play @ the highest res they can so I'd say your a little off on your post. Plus why should they give your specific resolution compared to just an average, I don't always see my res on reviews, they just must give what they can as far as the hardware they are using @ the time. I always feel I can get an idea of performance when my res is not included in the review. We aren't all special and deserve to get our specific wants, these guys are doing us a favor by letting us know how it performs.

Marvelous: I don't understand why you're upset then. For mainstream and budget cards I do test at 1280x1024. Check out the BioShock article for proof. I've never tested an 8600 GTS-class card at 2560x1600 in any of our articles.

For a high-end setup like 8800 GTX SLI though, 1280x1024 just isn't a res that someone with that kind of PC would run at.

Marvelous: When you're testing this many different cards there's only so much time in the day for testing (remember I'm doing 7 runs per resolution). So I choose to include more graphics cards rather than more resolutions. I honestly don't think the final conclusion would change all that much if a 1280x1024 graph were added.

What 19" monitor is limited to 1280x1024 anyway? Even an old 19" CRT should be more than capable of running 1600x1200 at 85Hz or better.

1280x1024 is the most used resolution in 19" LCDs which seem to be the most common sized LCD size sold. LCD's do not scale up like a CRT.

To be fair though, whatever performance is seen on the 1600x1200 benchmarks, 1280x1024 should be faster. So, if the FPS look good at 1600, then 1280 should be just fine.

Three big games that have come out - Bioshock, Unreal 3, and TF2 have the 2600 xt performing on par with the 8600 gts and it's $50 cheaper.

In the last gen the 2600 xt did suck. It seems it really was designed for next gen games. You guys should add that card to your other game tests.

(the 2600 xt doesn't do so hot in CoD4 cause it hasn't been optimized, still 3/4 of next gen games ain't bad)
