| | (Post a comment) » Is New CNet Management The Cause For GameSpot Firing?1Up.com has their own article on the firing of GameSpot executive editor Jeff Gerstmann. The article speculates that the dismissal could be due to Stephen Colvin, the new Executive Vice President at GameSpot's parent company CNet. Colvin, who joined CNet just a month ago, was formerly the CEO of Dennis Publishing, who handle Maxim, Blender and the former Stuf magazines. Those publications tend to mix editorial and marketing a bit (game reviews in those magazines don't mean a lot since many of them are written months ahead of the game's release) and its thought that Colvin's influence might be extending to GameSpot. The article also links to an anonymous poster on a blog site claiming to have inside info on Gerstmann's firing but there's no real proof that the poster is indeed a member of Gamespot. | Previous news article | Back to main news | Next news article |

| No shit. I wonder how CNet will react.
I wonder if they thought some cookie cutter automated jib-jab response was actually going to cut it.
I guess this is the way the cookie crumbles.» Login to reply to this Stories (315) Dec 01, 2007 - 09:07 am

| | even though hardcore gamers are a "small" percentage of the gamer market, the big boys have begun to learn that this is a heavly communicative market base, and the hard-cores will scream out into the night on virtually every forum and review site known to man when something like Kane & Lynch threatens to waste our hard-earned dollars, and bad news travels fast. I've heard it said that negative statements are 7 times more effective than a positive, on just about anything, because people are more psychologically more likely to focus on avoiding being taken advantage of than being convinced to make a purchase that they otherwise would not have made. » Login to reply to this |

| | And we make a fair chunk of their target audience. So in the end, they're gonna get hurt for this for being retarded in their decisions. » Login to reply to this |
