» NVIDIA 3-Way SLI Performance Preview

When 2 GeForce 8800 Ultras isn't enough for Crysis, what is a gamer to do? Why not try 3 GeForce 8800 Ultras! That's what today's 3-Way SLI launch is all about -- more performance. See how the platform stacks up in this article!

Hmmm, nice and meh all rolled into 1 ball. The performance gains are noticeable in some situations. The min FPS is definately nice in those benchmarks. But problem is do you really want to spend all that money on a new card or two. I think the benefits are not good enough to warrent it tbh.

I'm also very curious about the power consumption of the system. I think nvidia have said 1100W minimum, yet I know my own 8800gt system with a quad core @2.7ghz only draws 270W at full load, despite nvidia recommending 400W. Are one of the many 1kw PSUs adequate to run this sytem, despite not being certifified by nvidia?

Interested about cooling and temps too - it doesn't look like the top two cards can get any airflow!

Funny how the gaming community bends over for the video card companies. You ever wonder why there has not been a video card as good as the 9800 pro in a long time? Well that's because they have "cycles" now! They will not release too good of a card too soon. If they stumble upon a good board they will say, wait lets do this one after the next 3 we have in the line up. You notice how we can not even run a game good anymore with a single card? If you can, just wait until Next Gen games come out! I wouldn't buy an sli motherboard if my gaming depended on it! O ya lets Buy 3 crappy cards to get the same performance that they could give with a single card 3 cycles down the road. Good cards are a bad business model and we need to wake up and let these companies know we know! What next 4 sli so we can play Rage maxed out?

Guess, what in 3 month's time or less, when the true G9x comes out it's more than likely to be at least perform 2x as fast as one 8800gtx/ultra/gts512. I think Nvidia is just trying to hype up the 8800s as much as possible so they can get the maximum amount of orders for these remaining months before the next flagship hits in 2008. Hopefully by then Crysis will be TRULY finished, and the new card will be able to run the game in all its glory. Having 3 ultra cards and barely hitting 30fps with maximum settings is quite ridiculous. Crysis has been a major disappointment not only in performance but in what the game content actually delivers (no shooting while cloaked, abrupt ending (thanks EA!), AI glitches, physic glitches, sometimes very bad AI, never getting a chance to work with your enemies, the NKA, which was promised in multiple interviews, and last but not least the engine is already "dated" in the sense that Far Cry 2's engine already has the edge over the Cryengine 2 (eg: breakable tree branches, not just at the trunk). I hope Crytek can get their stuff together, because right now I feel Crysis was a missed opportunity for them. They did not hit the mark at all like they did with Far Cry, which was so much more "awesome" when it was first released (at least the AI was much much more challenging).
