» Microsoft Already Working On Game For Next Xbox?

Microsoft's Xbox 360 is a little more than two years old but according to a story at 1Up.com, a Microsoft first party game sequel is already being designed for the next Xbox console. The rumor comes from the latest issue of Electronic Gaming Monthly; there's no word on what the sequel is and no word on when they expect the next Xbox console will be ready for its release.

Here are my wishes:

1) Ditch the crappy Motorola PPC processors and go with Intel
2) Don't rush the console. Focus on QC. The Xbox was primarily designed by NVIDIA (mobo, audio, ethernet, graphics). The Xbox 360 was primarily designed by Microsoft. Big difference in QC. Hope MS learned their lesson. It seemed like they rushed the design in order to be the first next gen console on the market.
3) Make all consoles come standard with 802.11n wireless controller.
4) Make the console quiet.
5) If possible, design the console so it can blend with other home theater components. I hated how when I owned a 360, it would really stand out in my entertainment center in a bad way. But this is not a deal killer.

Considering a high-profile big-budget game can take 3 years for development, now is actually about the right time for developers to start working on the "launch" titles for the next-gen Xbox, since it should be arriving in stores in about 3 years if it follows the usually development cycle.

I just hope that they'll have some analog (mouse like) control mechanism attached to the controller. It could a tiny thumb trackball which would could work quite nicely. I hate it when a good chunk of the AAA console titles are shooters and all they offer are dual analog thumb sticks for control. So annoying. Heck, then RTS games like the new C&C for the 360 might actually be playable for a change.

Hopefully next time round they'll include wireless networking, user-changeable hard drives and a decent mobo design and quality control...

Um, they do have wireless networking and user changeable hard drives... or do you mean "standard on all models"?

Agreed about the quality control though. RRoD is a serious problem.

Yes I meant 'across the range'... and PS3-style HDD interchangeability, rather than high-priced, XBox-branded HDDs.

Well, if it's only the early stages of development there isn't much of a surprise. The initial designs can take a while, so by the time they are done with that phase Microsoft may have released a dev kit of some sort for the next xbox.
