| | (Post a comment) » Fired GameSpot Editor To Help Launch New Game Site?1Up.com's site manager Sam Kennedy has posted up a lengthy post on his blog site giving his opinions on last November's firing of GameSpot's executive editor Jeff Gerstmann and how that firing might affect both GameSpot as a web site and game journalism as a whole. The post is quite detailed and is definitely a good read. One thing that was interesting was a mention of what Gertsmann might be doing next:
As for Jeff, word on the street is that he's teaming with GameSpot founder Vince Broady (who recently left Yahoo) to build a new game site to "take on GameSpot." Now that would be interesting, would it?

| They have a shot, simply because a lot of people will have heard of them due to the nature of their departure from Gamespot.
But they will be starting that business venture at a terribly unfavorable time. A lot of new startups and business owners are going to feel the chill winds of the first serious recession this country has seen since the early 1980s.» Login to reply to this |

| I hope they open their own site. Gamespot is not a credible source anymore. I was there for a long time as a subscriber, but I stopped supporting them with my cash when Greg left. I won't even click on anything that links to Gamespot, as I don't want to help their advertiser's counter.
To quote myself on the reply to the post in 1up: Game reviews will no longer be a deciding factor for me when I buy a game. I'll wait for demos or for word of mouth from friends and relatives who share my taste in games. And just out of spite, I won't buy any games with the Eidos brand on them.» Login to reply to this |
