» THQ Cancels Games And Shuts Down Dev Studio

This THQ press release announced that the company will be shutting down one of its internal development studios and cancelling a number of game titles. The dev studio in question is Carlsbad, California based Concrete Studios which THQ opened in 2004. Concrete was working of one of two now cancelled unannounced titles that THQ had plans to release in their fiscal 2010 timeline. Also cancelled is the PS3 version of Frontlines: Fuel Of War (FiringSquad was told by a THQ rep earlier this week that the game was not cancelled) and the previously revealed cancelation of the PS2 version of Destroy All Humans!: Big Willy Unleashed. In addition THQ has decided not to make any more games in the Stuntman and Juiced series; it's currently unknown what will happen to the developers of those titles, Paradigm Entertainment and Juiced Games. While THQ has yet to file its official numbers for the past fiscal quarter it did say today that its revenues for the quarter are expected to be $509 million, which is higher than their previous prediction of $490 million thanks to better-than-expected sales of MX vs. ATV Untamed and Smackdown Vs Raw 2008. Official numbers for the quarter will be announced on Feb. 5

In a separate press release THQ announced two new execs to help take charge of their worldwide studios. Roy Tessler, previously the general manager of THQ's Rainbow Studios develper, has been named as vice president of production for THQ's worldwide studios. Also, Danny Bilson was vice president, creative development for THQ's worldwide studios. Bilson previously worked at Electronic Arts as their creative director and has also written movies like The Rocketeer and created TV shows like The Flash and Viper (he's also the father of actress Rachel Bilson).
