Well I can't wait till the 9800 GX2. This thing can barely beat a 8800 GTX, a card that's over 1 year old.

This card would be a attractive offering to those currently looking to purchase an 8800 GTX/Ultra but want the benefit of a lower price and retain media acceleration for HD/BD movies.

However, it's likely nVidia's next offering will provide the same benefits with improved performance.

I've been out of the GPU market for some time (XBox gamer now as got fed up with the upgrade cycle) but these incremental improvements fail to excite me.

I can play UT2004 on my cheap Dell Dimension with integrated GFX at 1024x768 32 bit with all settings on 'normal'. Whilst that is the case I just can't bring myself to spend $500 a year on new GPUs. Hell, I've not even seen what a modern top-dollar SLI'd GPU looks like in ultra-high resolutions.

It would be nice if reviews would also offer high-res videos of the game in action so we could all see what 2200x1600/high-quality textures/Anisotropic filtering/8xAA actually looks like! Cos unless I see it, I'm just not tempted to spend the cash.

they don't post xHD videos because it's far too stressful on systems; the actual frame rate takes a shit when recording via FRAPS or something similar. the only way one could showcase gameplay+graphics at xHD resolutions would be outputting the game via a projector and recording footage using a Camera. but then, it would completely defeat the purpose since even HD cameras mess up contrast/colors when recording gameplay videos.

or you can just browse various forums and check high quality user-posted images with high levels of AA/AF... =P

What it looks like, is gorgeous! Granted you might not notice an incremental upgrade, G9 to G9, but the difference you would experience between your current settings and "2200x1600/high-quality textures/Anisotropic filtering/8xAA" would be significant.

16xAF offers little is any visual improvement over 8xAF. It does, however, use a substantial amount of bandwidth and skew the results.

Use 8xAF.

» Why no Quake wars?
Would you please bench this card with Quake Wars!

please test 2560x1600

also it's an easy way to show openGL performance
