| | (Post a comment) » Xbox Live Arcade 150 MB Ceiling Too Limiting? When Microsoft launched the Xbox Live Arcade game download service for the Xbox 360 console, the games were limited to 50 MB because the company wanted to store the games on one single Xbox 360 64 MB memory card. A number of months ago, the Xbox Live Arcade size limit was raised to 150 MB when Microsoft released a 256 MB Xbox 360 memory card. Now Videogamer.com reports that even the higher size limit is causing problems for at least one upcoming Xbox Live Arcade game. Backbone and Capcom are developing the upcoming fighting game Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo: HD Remix for both Xbox Live Arcade and for the PS3's Playstation Store. However, Backbone's David Sirlin states that it is encountering problems with getting the new 1080p graphics to fit in the Xbox Live Arcade version's size limit:
Yes, it's difficult to store so many 1080p graphics in such a small download size. A lot depends on the specific shading that the final art will have, and how well that shading compresses. It also makes it difficult or impossible to include all the original game's music AND all remixed set of music. We're still doing our best to fit within the limit we've been given. | Previous news article | Back to main news | Next news article |

| | It is ridiculous that they're still selling Core units. Unlike the PS3, which is crippled by the Blu-Ray drive's slow read speed, developers would have been able to put a standard 360 hard drive to good use. Such a waste. » Login to reply to this |

| | I have said it too many times, the Core (now the Arcade edition) has hurt the 360 in many ways. Not allowing developers to write games that can offload to a harddrive to speed things up and smoothe out gameplay and especially size limit to Arcade Live games. That is one area the PS3 has always had over the 360, too bad the PS3's store is butt ugly and not as easy to use. » Login to reply to this |
