» EA To Release New Orange Box Games As Separate PC Titles

During Electronic Arts' financial conference call today, company execs stated that they plan to release all of the new games in Valve's Orange Box collection (Half-Life 2: Episode 2, Team Fortress 2 and Portal) as separate retail games for the PC. The three games will ship to stores for the PC sometime before the end of March; no prices for the games were announced. Of course, Steam owners can already pay and download those three games as separate products.

I would only would buy them separately when I see them in a jewel case or sleeve on a spinning rack.

haha, Valves lies grow ever more apparent, retailers didn't like having Black/Orange boxes my ass, Valve canceled Black Box so they could charge customers for games they already owned, i'm glad I don't have Orange Box, EA should release Black Box if they're willing to do each game individually

Hate much? I picked up the orange box on sale for $30, but TF2 alone is easily worth $50 by itself. Best game released in years but if actually played it instead of trolling the internet you would already know that.

troll? pfft, i've played all 3 from my friends PC, only about 10mins each but that should be enough, Portal was interesting I would like to play through that, HL2 EP2 was more of the same, shallow combat and all, i'm more interested in the story, I hear Valve actually did something with it in this installment, TF2 however I wasn't very impressed with, it played dull and I was bored quickly, maybe i'd grow to it with more time but for now I could care less about it

and yes I hate Valve, they've burned me far too many times in the past (I was one of those retards who bought the HL2 Collectors Edition :@)

also, I don't care whether TF2 is worth the 50bux alone, one of the selling points of 'episodic' content was regular releases and a cheap price, well Valve has failed epically in both regards

Yeah Valve makes stuff that is popular so that must mean they're evil and lying to us about trivial things, I totally identify with your kind of mentality.

Microsoft makes the Xbox360 that is very popular yet everyone calls them evil, and yes, they are the exact same thing

I'm not calling Valve evil because they're popular, I have constantly been burned by them in the past, purchasing the HL2 Collectors Edition, having updates being shoved down my throat causing me to be unable to play my games, having offline mode not working again causing me to be unable to play my games, making me pay full price for an 'episodic' title, I don't hate them because they're popular, I hate them because they seem (from my perspective) to have little interest in the user

Microsoft uses underhanded business tactics to steal from other software companies, force smaller competitors out of the market, and deliberately make rival software as difficult as possible to use on their systems. They had a reputation for being evil long before they got into the console market, and not without reason.

You on the other hand are calling Valve evil just because they're popular like a typical malcontent. Please don't compare the two.

I don't think that's how it works. If TF2 + Portal + EP2 < $50, and each title sold seperately is $30 (I think?), then the only way you can screw yourself is by buying one of those games and THEN buying the Orange Box as well. HL2 and Ep. 1 are bonuses, you're not really paying for those.

HL2 and ep1 weren't really bonuses, evidenced by Orange costing more than Black with the only difference being HL2 and ep1 which any HL fan already owns (and any friends they may give those to already owning them)

Possibly the most pointless retail release EVER. Nobody in their right mind would pass up the Orange Box for these games separately.

The only thing I can think of is they regret the slightly crappy box art, but thats about it.

I have a friend who picked up just TF2, and passed over the Orange Box.

I guess EA sees a lot of people doing the same thing. I can see how people might pick up TF2 over the Orange Box in a retail store, if they really have zero interest in Half Life or Portal.

Sounds good to me + even with the dollar being values so low the full box will still cost more than Portal on its own and I am done playing Half Life games.

I want games with intelligent puzzles and not just the overly easy newbie stuff that is in Half Life2.
