Lets not forget that you will be able to run three GX2s when ever they get their ass in gear with drivers. I own two 9800GX2s and sold my tri - sli setup to buy them. I am not disipointed at all. I also just sold my two 512 GTS's so i can buy two 9800GTX's on the 1st

Quad is as high as you can go with the 9800 GX2 (2 cards). 3-Way SLI is only supported by the 8800 GTX and Ultra for now...

The numbers showed with Crysis are a joke. This alone proves that Quad-SLI isnt worth it at all.

I mean common, my TFT´s resolution is 1920 x 1200 and I´m playing every game in this resolution. Since Crysis is too demanding I didnt buy it. Although the demo was running fluid on "mid" the "high" setting was a really bad experience.

Although I think that the CPU you have tested with is holding it back I saw benches with a quad OC´d to 4 GHz and it managed a mere 40 fps @1920 x 1200. That seems to be good if you do not consider that this is an average frame rate and drops below 30 as well.

Looking at the economics, 2 of these will cost $1200, and they will last at least 2 years, so looking at it monthly, it will cost $50 per month to own a quad setup. Not counting the rest of the other components one would have to upgrade to be able to run this setup.

» Boo 9800GTX delayed til April 1st
I thought the 9800GTX was supposed to Launch today?!?!? So they set the Launch date on April 1st? Kinda fishy date to launch a product....

Thanks for the SLI review, though I'll never buy this setup its nice to bench my system against.

Again, why oh why are Very High settings not used in Crysis?

Because even on high settings the performance in Crysis isn't all that great on an 8800 GT. If I were just running tests with the 8800 GTS 512MB SLI setup or better it would be okay, but the slower cards tend to really chug at very high settings in my FRAPS walkthroughs.

But seriously..anybody interested in dropping $1200 on two 9800GX2s is going to want to see the 'Very High' settings in Crysis, IMHO. Honestly, since the article is about the 9800GX2 SLI setup, I doubt there would be much dissent over not including the relatively low end 8800GT in the writeup.

Still, thanks for the review!
