I'm surprised you said that, since the review shows just the opposite! The cpu matters greatly unless you are trying to run at some ungodly resolution where the video card is holding you back. if you get a good cpu, you need a good gpu. » Login to reply to this  deimos47 (434)   Sep 08, 2008 - 09:04 am I dont find evidence to support your assertion. HD4870 is pretty high end, and every single game was GPU limited at a relatively modest 1600x1200. (I hope folks aren't buying these things to game DX10 at 800x600!?). What the graphs do show is that keeping your old AthlonX2 or Core2Duo wont hurt much if at all. Using faster GPUs like 4870x2 or GT280 SLI, would have perhaps shown more bottlenecking earlier on from CPU side. However its probably not typical GPU setup for your average E8600 buyer. Oh and btw: only 2 games I've seen with any improvement from Quad are Lost Planet and Supreme Commander - so this is pretty much the best overall CPU for games on the planet. » Login to reply to this  deimos47 (434)    Sep 14, 2008 - 04:14 pm anybody here who actually EVER used 800x600 in any game in the last 5 years, raise your hands.. Just look at the graphs again, the 8600 is 50% faster than the phenom even at 1600x1200. Granted that is at low quality, but it is still a difference. There is more to gaming than graphics performance. A lot of games, specifically rts games rely more on the cpu than the gpu. You need both a high quality cpu AND gpu. To say one or the other makes no difference is absurd. Furthermore, your comment has been correct for a number of years now. If a build's CPU is bottle necking the GPU then a gaming rig is not the machine that was built.
