| » Awaiting mid-range :) Thanks this is good stuff, been waiting for a while. This is why I come to FS, you guys understand the importance of 8xAA testing and that too with so many cards. Keep it up! Hope to see how the 9600GT does.
The game looks great and really immerse, what more could you want. Story is fun too with some interesting NPCs. :)» Login to reply to this |

| | to be honest, i'm underwhelmed at the graphics for this game.. it's basically on the same level as oblivion, only the general lack of shadows is even more glaring when you don't have static canopy shadows to cover up everything. » Login to reply to this LazyGarfield (184) Nov 07, 2008 - 01:35 am
| whining when games like Crysis make your hardware not produce enough fps and whining when games dont look as good...

| i've never complained about crysis, nor do i care about having 100+ FPS on every game. i don't even mind if developers don't make "video-realism" a priority. i just think it's a little ridiculous when a blockbuster game in 2008 doesn't have shadows.
the dynamic shadows in oblivion they showed at E3 like 3 years ago were cut because they were "too demanding." okay, 3 years ago, maybe they were, but what about now? hardware's way more powerful, and they can't be that hard to add back in, so what's bethesda's excuse?» Login to reply to this

| Obviously the engine is tuned for consoles so it'll look the same (but at higher res/aa/af) on a pc.
However I don't think it's just that. If you want to sell a lot of games you've got to set achievable hardware requirements. If they upped the graphics so it didn't run on high on an 8800GT, or at all on a laptop with a mid range gpu then they cut their potential sales massively.
Crysis suffered from this - I am an enthusiast and I still haven't bought it because I *only* have an 8800GT, and when I play that game I want to play it on ultra high settings, so that game can wait till I upgrade my graphics next year.» Login to reply to this |

| I worship Valve, but that doesn't mean they push PC-focused tech like an id, Epic or Crytek of old. They are still using the 4-year old Source Engine, though it has some enhancements.
Same story with Blizzard. The recently announced Diablo III seems to be running on more primitive tech than even Titan Quest.
No argument that their games are important, top-tier releases, but they aren't examples of cutting edge PC tech.» Login to reply to this |

| | It's okay if a developer wants to port a pc game to a console, it just doesn't work the other way around. But I believe that Valve and Blizzard, among others, may disagree with your premise. » Login to reply to this |

| | Guess what? The days of big-budget PC aimed games are over. Crysis Warhead was the last of its kind. ALL future top-tier games will be made with consoles in mind. Even id Software's Rage has had complexity and features cut because consoles didn't have the power to run them. Whether you agree or disagree with it, piracy has killed the PC games industry as we once knew it. » Login to reply to this |

| | Because they're still developing for 3 year old hardware! This is what happens when dev houses lead s/w on consoles, not the pc. The graphics are worse and the controls often get gimped. It's a lesson I learned the hard way recently when I played Dead Space. The controls are gimped for no other reason than it would be impossible to work around with a controller. Personally, I'm no longer playing games that are using the 360 or PS3 as the lead platform. Unless, of course, I'm going to play them on a console. » Login to reply to this |
