Such a pity such a cool product is not available in any of the reputable stores. if you do manage to find them online, they charge an arm and a leg for shipping! if you order from the manufacturer, cheapest shipping is US$37! Coolit better shape up or risk having their products become stale when they manage to fix their logistics issues.

Grinner, I can't nest anymore replies, but yeah, you mount it by screwing it through the mobo using the stock backplate. I haven't used 939 in awhile, so I can't remember if the holes are the same as AM2. If so, then I would imagine it would work fine.

Will it mount on Socket 939 boards? hehe I'm an Opteron 165 holdout here.

OMG a single core user!! I held out with my FX-55 as long as I could until my Asus 939 motherboard fried, and I couldn't find even a near-worthy replacement.

Hang on to that mobo for dear life man.. once it's gone... hello platform upgrade.

Anyway back on topic.... let's see an AM2 compatible version of this (edit: thanks for clarification... I... I never learned to read!) I don't usually recommend much else but the 120mm Zalman's for those who want to replace the stock HSF on those CPU's and this cooler seems sweet.

Mr. Wielder, the Opteron 165 is a Dual core CPU with 1MB cache per core. And yes I will hang on to my board since, Epox is not around anymore, and my board 9NPA3J-SLI supports SLI and DDR400. it's quite a legacy product but I can still play fine with it.

The Domino is compatible with all current sockets, AM2/AM2+, LGA775 and 1366. I even tested it on an AMD 5000+. Performance numbers are in the review.

hmmm after looking at the pics of the cooler, the screws look like they might just screw into a Socket 939 board. I may push this Opteron beyond 3 ghz yet!

Yup I konow it works with AM2/AM2+ so now I am wondering if the HSF retention clips of socket am2/am2+ is compatible with socket 939 retention clips? or are there no clamps and you have to attach it thru the holes of the motherboard? thanks

» Domino Review
I am also reviewing the domino for nordic hardware. I found the install to be very easy, but I have been building and selling for over 10yrs. My units fan is not loud at all on high setting. it's very possible that you received a unit with a bad fan. Install only took me 28mins counting removing the motherboard installing the back plate, and getting everything back together including both GTX280s. My review should be published after christmas.

I wonder if replacing the fan with a higher quality, quieter fan would help noise levels?

Another thing to keep in mind is the speed of the fan. The reason why 80mm fans are so loud is that they have to run at high RPM's to achieve the same CFM as a larger fan. 80mm and smaller fans tend to run between 1800-2500 RPM's, while 120mm's usually run between 900-1800. This allows more air at slower speeds. The fan on the Domino runs at 2500 RPM's when on high, so that explains a little bit why it's so darn loud.

The noise from a fan comes from two places; the ball bearings and the blades. Eletrci motros are basically silent as they don't have contacting parts. When the blade hits air it causes a sound wave and if the ball bears vibrate they cause sound waves. So replacing with a "btter" fan will only effect the quality of the ball bearings. If you have ever had a fan fail then you know that in that instance the fan gets very loud, otherwise the primary contribution to noise is the fan blade. So, I would speculate that a replacement would have little effect on the sound generated unless the cause was a faulty ball bearing. In which case, a new unit should be tested. I bet if firingsquad contacts the manufacturer they would send a new unit for testing since sound is an issue many of us gamers care about.

» replacing the fan
Replacing the Domino's fan could be a little tricky due to the way the Domino is built. I will be trying this with a 120mm with a higher cfm once my review has been published. I hope a higher cfm fan will help increase cooling performance. I will let you know what happened, and what was involved in the fans replacement.
