» AMD Phenom II X4 940 Black Edition Performance

About time AMD got back into the game even though the benches show it middle of the pack for gaming. but the price is right for what you get. Better than spending a grand on a i7 setup when you can spend half that and get almost there performance. OCing it should be fun. If people can get to 4ghz with the right board AMd will be respectable again.

Quote from the article:

"Rumors also point to the first AM3 processors arriving in a little over a month"

I wouldn't have mentioned it in the article if I didn't believe the rumors were true. (hint, hint)

Hmm, it sure isn't enough to catch with Intel.

I dunno... it doesn't have the wow factor of the original Athlon and X2 release.

My next upgrade is still Intel.

Only because the AM3 versions aren't out yet. I think we'll be wowed then. I was pretty dead-set on picking up a 920 but I thought a little about the upgrade path I wanted and it will be more worthwhile for me to wait for the AM3 version then go for a total core upgrade.

This was a really good review, I'm still using a 5000+ but it's OC'd to 6000+ speeds; these benches let me figure out what kind of performance increase I should be expecting. I've been really reluctant to let my current CPU go but these numbers have convinced me... It's time.

Of course the 9950 BE sitting there on Newegg for $160 is looking pretty damn tempting still.
