» Radeon HD 4870 X2 price cuts begin to kick in

Yesterday in the EVGA GeForce GTX 295 Plus article I reported on the price cuts ATI was trying to initiate with their board partners and retailers. At the time, Sapphire/Newegg were the only ones onboard with the plan. Today is a new day though and more cards are available with the new 4870 X2 pricing, although Newegg is still the only retailer carrying the cards in stock.

Sapphire's 4870 X2 is still available for $450, with a $50 mail-in rebate bringing the price down to $400, while this board from HIS is priced at $450, but their mail-in rebate is just $15 bringing the price down to $435. PowerColor's 4870 X2 card is also now $450, with a $20 MIR available bringing the total price down to $430.

And what about the GeForce GTX 295? So far, four graphics boards have hit Newegg, with prices starting at $500. The Zotac and BFG cards are selling at the MSRP of $499.99, while ASUS' offering sells for $10 more at $509.99. EVGA's factory OC'ed GeForce GTX 295 Plus is also priced at $509.99.

400-500 bucks in todays economy is wayyyy to much coin to shell out for a stupid video card.

We always knew he was full of fail. He probably still runs a p2 celeron and a 3Dfx card.

I remember paying $400 for a 512 KB memory expansion for a graphics card. And back then $400 was a lot more money.

I love it that computers has become so cheap. The only downside is the piles of computer trash - just consider the hundreds of millions of CRT monitors, cases, mice.... in prices was higher more older stuff would still be used instead of polluting.

theres a guy in this country that owns a business that breaksup all that crap and takes the metals off the circuit boards, metals like gold and copper, and he makes a fortune. Again proving one mans trash is another mans mansion.

That is the nature of all things though. From tee shirts to campain pins they all become junk after a year or so.
