| Hurrah for consumers!
As of Feb09, 45nm Phenom has finally hit the big 3.0Ghz (what P4 did in 2002 and Core2 in 2006), and CPU lineup that doesn't embarassingly lose to 2006's Q6600/Q6800.
PhenomII is actually "phenomanly" better than predecessor in power efficiency, and clock scaling.
However, despite low AM3 CPU prices, I can't imagine folks lining up to buy DDR3 and new mobos.
And there's still no real need for triple, much less quad core. Notice how E8400 is at top or near in almost all except Lost Planet.
As anandtech stated, even though binning for triple core, difficult for AMD's huge die to compete with Intel's dual core entry lineup: E2xx, 5xx and E7xx..
And unlike old old Athlon days, more cache or faster memory aint coming to save the day. AMD desperately needs new CPU architecture.» Login to reply to this
