» NVIDIA's 3D Vision

NVIDIA's 3D Vision stereoscopic glasses promise to immerse you in 3D graphics so real they'll transform the way you see games. But are these claims accurate, and what kind of performance hit does the tech bring? Join us as we explore these topics and more in this article!

» Give it a year and this should be very good
In a years time I expect:
a) they will bring out a mk 2 version of the glasses which will be both better and cheaper.

b) 120Hz displays will start to become standard for gamers - irrespective of 3d vision 120hz displays will be great for gamers. They will become a key selling point.

c) the availability of hardware for devs to test on + nvidia's TWIMTBP will mean new games will support 3d vision properly. Unlike physx it seems pretty easy to add support to a game.

The only downside is it won't work with ati hardware :(

I might have missed it but why didn't you use cards higher than the GTX260 like the GTX285/95? quad? etc

though I remember my friend being able to play games in 3D with his geforce 4 back in the day, he played UT2003 demo in 3D though it caused lag, what happened to that tech?

I tried the system at CES with Yoda, and was very impressed. Obviously Brandon has now had the most time with them. But $600 is a lot of money these days and probably the biggest hurdle for me.

Maybe once a 3D tech becomes the standard in theaters it will become standard across the entire entertainment spectrum. Until that happens I think we'll see these lame proprietary attempts. (even if good, they're lame when they only work with nvidia's gfx cards)

True. Thankfully, Hollywood is working on a standard. Let's hope TV and monitor manufacturers follow it. I still want 3D WITHOUT glasses though.

» Mmm..
I have an old Canopus card and I played many games (including the original Tomb Raider) with it. I still have it installed in an old system with Windows 95 (not connected to a network). I remember the old card was capable of stereoscopic 3D with any game, as long as it was using DirectX 5 (did they take that support out on newer versions of DX?)
It was pretty good at the time, although I admit to be nauseated by heights, and this made it more realistic in games. As others said, nothing new here. Also, glasses were fine in 1995. I see a lot of companies trying to push this crap again when it didn't work back then for the mass market. There is stereoscopic 3D without glasses already. Sharp and Grundig have TVs and monitors in development, and I rather have 3D without glasses than with them. And we need standards too. I don't want to see proprietary crap.

I sure don't want glasses.
1 ) because I ware glasses.
2 ) They are to dark. like say a fictonal 75% as example.
3 ) They flip 50%

So it is 75% of 50% 37,5% so you must cranck up backlight or CRT to compensate for 62.5 %.

Wonder if my CRT can compensate for it.
