Considering their PC gaming roots, everyone expected Remedy's Alan Wake to be released on PC as well as the Xbox 360, but according to a new article from Finnish gaming magazine Pelaaja, that may not be the case. After speaking with Remedy, the mag says that a PC release is "up in the air", with Remedy and Microsoft only speaking about the Xbox 360 version of the game at this time.

The mag also revealed that Alan Wake won't feature open world gameplay (ala Grand Theft Auto), instead it's more of a linear shooter. This gameplay concession was made in order to deliver a compelling storyline. However, Remedy says the game won't be completely linear: “The player must not feel they’re being pulled from strings. The player must feel like they’re making the decisions themselves”.

Considering that Alan Wake was revealed to the world for the first time at Intel's IDF, I have a hard time believing the game will be exclusive to the Xbox 360. At the same time however, with Microsoft publishing the game, an Xbox 360 exclusive isn't out of the question if MSFT feels it will help them sell more 360 game consoles.

UPDATE: Speaking on the Alan Wake forums, Remedy's Markus says: "Unfortunately all I can say at this point is that we're focusing all our efforts on the 360 version and will be making comments in regards to the PC at a later in time."
