» Blizzard President confirms StarCraft II delay won't affect Diablo III

With StarCraft II pushed back to the first half of 2010, you might have naturally assumed this delay would've also pushed back the release of Diablo III. Not so says Blizzard's Mike Morhaime. From Kotaku:
Later in the call, a financial analyst tried to get top Blizzard exec, Mike Morhaime, to clarify whether the delay of StarCraft II to 2010 would push back an anticipated 2010 release for the studio's Diablo III. The analyst recalled an earlier comment by a Blizzard representative that the studio would release a single major game per year.

"The move of StarCraft into next year does not impact the schedule," Morhaime said. "And so it would be correct to conclude that you could expect two releases of Blizzard for next year. But I would not make any conclusions on what those titles would be."

The delay might be good for PC gamers. By then we should see next generation ATI and NVIDIA cards on the market. These games are both going to get some console gamers to upgrade home computers to play them and with DirectX 11 cards coming out from ATI it will be a good time for console gamers to see what they are missing.

Blizzard's games don't require powerful systems to play.

I see people doing an upgrade because of people loving Windows 7. While some gamers will be able to drop in a card and be able to play games just fine or have a system that came with a decent graphics card others will have to upgrade. Also right now seems like desktops are cheap enough where for about $500 I have seen dual core systems with monitors or quads without. Throw in a decent graphics card and for $600 you would be able to play Diablo III or Starcraft 2 just fine.

I also belive these games are going to have more pull on bringing console gamers back to the PC. Both of these games where last seen when consoles where not as popular and have large fallowings.

The reason they are delaying Star Craft II, is due to the Battle.net code not being optimized. So if they are not having any problems with Diablo 3, then it shouldn't affect the release date.

Agreed, but SC2 was already in development for a long time, D3 will use Bnet as well.

Now I'b be surprised to see D3 out before xmas '10.

I bet the other game is Warcraft Stories or Starcraft Ghost. If it was Diablo 3 he would have said so thus it must be another Blizzard project.

It would also be correct to assume that one game might be released in the year 2012, while the other one has already been released, due to Blizzard's new time machine that they managed to manufacture. It, meaning "game X" was released 2 years ago. Although it would be safe to not assume that facts are fact.
