» Modern Warfare 2 PC priced at $60

I'm posting this waay late but thanks to FiringSquad reader Tom S. I see that Modern Warfare 2 PC will sell for $60 when it hits retailers this November. As Beef Jack reports, online retailers Amazon, Best Buy, and Gamestop all list the PC version of Modern Warfare 2 for $60 -- the same price as the console version. Traditionally PC games have debuted for no more than $50 (often less), so this is a $10 price increase.

Gamers in the UK are already upset over Modern Warfare 2's £5 increase. Activision justified it due to fluctuating exchange rates between the Euro and Pound. I'm not sure how they justify the $10 price increase for Modern Warfare 2 PC though, although industry analyst Michael Pachter says: “Activision knows it has a ‘hot’ game, knows that the market will pay an additional 10 percent, and has decided to increase price accordingly.”

I dunno. While I'm sure hardcore fans of the series will gladly cough up the extra dough, I have a feeling a large number of cash-strapped PC gamers are going to wait for the first sale on Steam.

It's called inflation. We just have to deal with it. Prices will go up because we have to pay increasing salaries, increasing costs of running offices, etc. etc.

Anybody here recall TNT, TNT2, GeForce, GF2 GTS, GF3 and GF4 cards shipping with:
+ 2-3 new games. Sometimes physically, sometimes coupons for HL2 like with Radeon 9800pro... good long wait ... good times.
+ hardware monitoring software
+ cool stickers.
+ other accessories like T-shirts etc.

Those were goos times. I miss having the free bundle of stuff, but having significantly less expensive video cards is also a bonus.

The majority of diehard fans will pay $60. The rest of us would have probably waited for a sale down from $50 anyway, I know I will. High demand for a game so you make extra off the people who have to have it right away and you still wind up making your sales to others as the price point drops. Smart business really.

Yeah, the outrage is rather overrated... If someone was gonna pay $50 for it that means they have the money to spare and are willing to pay any price really. So why not get $60 from them? Plus i doubt these people would care much, they have the money otherwise they wouldn't be shelving out $50 for a game in the first place.

The rest of us would have waited for a price drop anyway. This higher price point may mean what? another week of waiting? Perfectly fine in my mind.

To those so outraged, boycott all you want. I for one will enjoy shoving claymores up enemy asses with our without you.

The whole point is PC gamers have been getting the shaft for awile, coupled with the fact that peoples pockets are alittle bit thinner now. It just sucks that we are in hard times and big companies wanna slide the pipe alittle bit deeper.

I'll do the same thing I did with the first one. Wait until it's on Steam's weekend deal for about $20.

It will probably be free with the DX11 graphics cards at some point so I will wait until then. I dunno, $60 isn't so bad as long as we keep getting free maps that console players have to pay for. If I have to start paying for add on's, that will be a deal breaker. I'd probably pay $50 on release day but $60 is hard to swallow overall and I can wait.

» $39 to $49 to $59 to.....
That's what we said when they went from $39 to $49. Now it's $59...plus tax. My point is...I pay console prices, and I then am stuck with this game unless I can sell it on Craigslist or somewhere. At least when you pay for a console game...I can recoup some money toward another game.

But...I don't want this on the console. I buy these games on the PC. Better res...smoother...and keyboard/mouse combo. So...I'm not paying it.
