This is more of a question, hope that you guys may help me figure
this out.
Why is the 'Vertices per second' of GeForce FX 5200 Ultra and 5600
Ultra is lower than those of GeForce 4 Ti series?
This is from nVidia's specs:
GeForce FX 5600 Ultra: 100 million
GeForce FX 5200 Ultra: 81 million
GeForce Ti 4800: 136 million
GeForce Ti 4200: 113 million.
Thanks for answering.

Of course, for the consumer (that would be us), the best scenario is
if none of the companies win.

Oh I'm not doubting that the goal of a marketing dept is to hype a
product so that it's in the consumer's face. The first rule of
marketing is "repetition, repetition, repetition". What
I'm saying is that a good marketing job is one that doesn't
*overhype* it but still promotes it well, as I said in my earlier
post.
That's totally independent of whether or not a consumer does
research or not. Whether or not a consumer does research is up to
them. I'm not saying ppl buy on hype or that hype is a totally bad
thing. I just say it can sometimes leave a sour taste in our mouths
when it doesn't meet the expectations that we were prepped up to
have.
But granted all that's happened, I do see LoneWolf's point and I
agree to some extent. I don't feel that ATI has really been the
source of the "hype", though I do feel it. I honestly
believe that the hype was simply generated by this gigantic rivalry
that we have between ATI and nVidia. You've got your ATI fan boys on
one end and nVidia fan boys on the other and now that ATI (the
underdog) finally has taken the lead and nVidia has taken a small
stumble, the ATI fan boys are all really hoping (yes *hoping*) for
the 9800Pro to blow the FX out of the water. Pretty much consumer
hysteria. In this case ATI never really had to do much to market the
card. Not among this crowd anyway.

As a dig at NVIDIA for calling the FX a "DirectX 9+" part
because of its extended programmability, ATi has named their R350 a
"DirectX 9++" part. You've got to love that creativity.

The Quick Fact on page 4 is wrong. The 9200 is an AGP-8X 9000, not
9100.

What GX-Romero said was accurate. The card is a little faster than
the previous one. However, what marketing department in their right
mind would advertise it that way? Besides, any serious unbiased
consumer would make a purchase based on some level of research. At
least by reading a review such as this. Only those eager to spend
or fanboys purchase based on hype.
There seems to be a general inability to accept capitalist marketing
here. I mean, hell, I see a car commercial on tv and I know those
people in it couldn't really be all that stoked about their Ford
Focus but also I realize it's just advertising.
