| | (Post a comment) » Overclocking Showdown: RADEON 9500 PRO vs. 9600 PROAfter publishing our RADEON 9600 PRO review, we were curious to see how an overclocked RADEON 9600 PRO would fare against the RADEON 9500 PRO. Unfortunately, overclocking utilities didn't support the brand new RV350 core at the time. Today however, things have changed, and we were able to push our RADEON 9600 PRO well beyond 500MHz! In this article we pit overclocked RADEON 9500 PRO and 9600 PRO cards against each other, to see which mainstream card comes out on top, and how they both fare against the 9700 PRO. You won't want to miss the results of this article! | Previous news article | Back to main news | Next news article |

Personally I like Aquamark better as a benchmark for actual
gameplay. My score was 22,000, then I OCed to 460/330, and got
28,000. Not bad.
But what I don't get is that everyone else seems to be able to get
theirs over 500mhz, mine is unstable at 470, and just locks up at
500. wtf? I run my case open, and of course stock heatsink on the
card. Doesn't seem like heat would make THAT much of a
difference....anyone have any ideas?

the same overclock as the reviewers in this article...had to bump
the agp voltage up a tad in the bios tho.

The newest catalyst drivers still have problems with HL and RCTW:ET.
Swaid (#7) is right, ATI is nowhere near NVidia in the driver
department. That's too bad for all of us ATI fans. I'm used to
playing stuff on a Radeon 7000, most games at 800*600, jagged edges,
the works. Now, I got a Radeon 9600 Pro. It is a truly amazing
overclocker, but I really can't get mine too high compared to what
the review is talking about. I can get 525/320 stable with no
artificing. I'm looking to put ramsinks on the beast, and would
like a new fan as well. However, compared to the 9500 Pro, which is
the same price, it doesn't beat it. The 9500 Pro has 8 pipelines
and 4 shader pipelines, and when it comes down to it, the 9600 Pro
can't beat it without pushing past what the review says. To do
that, you're looking for aftermarket cooling. If you're considering
buying one, and are like me, used to playable graphics, then this
card will blow you away. If you want the amazing graphics with the
amazing frame rates, go with the 9500 Pro. Hope this was some use
to someone out there. Mail me at unorthadox14@charter.net

Isn't the Radeon 9600 based on the r350 core? Is that the same as
in the 9800? If so, why does it have 4 pipelines instead of 8? And
is there a way to unlock the 9600 to have 8 pipelines like some have
done with the 9500? If anyone can answer me, mail me at
