Well, technically speaking, a single cell Lithium Ion battery may
hold more voltage than a single cell Nickle-Cadmium battery, but it
is difficult to say without knowing the half-cell reactions.
You see, batteries of a specific voltage are actually a series of
cells. A single Ni-Cd cell only has a voltage of 0.15V. Lithium
has a real kick to it, however. A Hydrogen-Lithium battery cell
would produce 3.05 V. H-Ni, and H-Cd, would only manage 0.25V and
0.40V respetively.
Electrochemistry is fun stuff. :)
Now, I am fairly certain he what really ment was three times the
charge, or the same voltage for three times the time, rahter than
three times the voltage, but we can excuse occational slips of the
toung, or slips of the Editor, now can't we?
As for the new systems that are coming up, the point of a portable,
it portability and gameplay; power and fancy graphics don't matter.
If I want eye-poping graphics, I have an Athlon 1800+ with Radeon
9700 sitting on my desk that can provide that. If they are not as
portable, nor have the same gameplay, then they will not do well in
the portable market.

who gives a ##%#? its the games, man, the games! every handheld
released against the gameboy has been technically superior, and
summarily crushed.
as long as gameboys have the best games, and sell for less than a
hundred dollars, make mine nintendo.

The Gameboy Advance is superb considering it's $99 price point.
True, the PSP and other coming handhelds will be MUCH more powerful
than GBA, but they will also cost much more too.

The GameBoy in any configuration currently sold is woefully outdated
and a poor representation of modern technology. Nintendo should be
ashamed of this piece of junk. $20 calculators now have more power
than the GBA SP.
Nintendo will get it's rude awakening soon as Sony and a slew of
other release in the next few months some new units that will
overshadow the GBA to multiple extremes.

This comment bugs the hell outta me:
"Damn extra thing we have to carry around to use
HEADPHONES."
You're already lugging around headphones, what difference does it
make if you plug the small wire adapter to the end of the
headphone's wires? None!

Heck yes. I just got a GBA SP last weekend as celebration for
finishing my thesis. A good cart for the RPG set is the Phantasy
Star collection. The port from the sega master system and genesis
isn't as clean as the port of A Link to the Past, but you get THREE
full-sized RPGs, and two save slots for each, all on one cart.
Sweet. And these are old-school games, they take forever to finish.

Congrats on the purchase. I own all three major consoles and the GBA
is (imo) right up there with them.
While there are a lot of crap games for the GBA, there games on it
that are great by any measure, not just 'good for a handheld'.
Among them are:
Advance Wars: I know you couldn't find it before, but you really
must get it. I've had it for over a year and a half and I still
can't get enough out of it. Best entertainment value for my money
since I bought Half Life. I can't wait for the sequel.
Mario Kart: Super Circuit. The best in the Mario Kart series. Great
tracks, plus you can unlock all of the old SNES tracks.
Super Puzzle Fighter: An oldie, but still fun.
Super Mario Advance 3: Yoshi's Island. My favorite 2D Mario game. It
had been years since I played it when I bought it. Usually nostalgia
makes it so that a game seems better than it actually is. This is
the rare case when the game is actually BETTER than I had remembered
it, which is saying a lot because I remembered loving Yoshi's
Island. A classic (imo, perfect) platformer.
Metroid Fusion: The shortest and most linear game in the Metroid
series. It's also quality the whole way through. Really good.
Zelda: A Link To The Past: It's thge same game, but it's still
great. The multiplayer game (The Four Swords) that comes with it
seems like a tacked-on addition, but it's honestly the most fun I've
had with multiplayer gaming in ages. Cooperative and competitive at
the same time. Good Times.
Street Fighter 2 Turbo/3 Alpha: You know em. Great fun.
Enjoy your new purchase
