I've only been playing this game for just over a week. Despite
being *horrible* at FPSes I really like this game. I disagree with
the point made about one person not making a difference. I can see
how this opinion might come about. The first few days I spent 'zerg
rushing' with the unwashed hordes of other newbs. You shoot some,
die, respawn, rinse, wash, and repeat.
Then I got into a good clan that uses TeamSpeak. A squad of 10 of
us can *easily* accomplish what a zerg rush of 30 or so cannot.
This game rewards specialization, communication, and coordination
like none other that I have played.

Indeed, the population on all the servers have dropped out now that
a lot of trials are running out. There's already been calls from
players to consolidate some servers.
Personally, I think the game has potential but there's no way I'm
paying a monthly charge for a game that's still a beta. If SOE
worked out their gameplay, game engine and tech support issues - PS
might be a decent game. Unfortunately for many it's laggy play that
crashes (I had five crashes in an hour) and a Tech Support forum
that largely ignores people. That is when they aren't too busy
deleting posts that accuse the game of being a beta or especially if
you dare suggest that maybe the game isn't worth the money. In
fact, the choice for me not to continue with PlanetSide was made
easy - I was banned for making "inappropriate" posts to
SOE forums. No, not trolling or flaming other users, which goes on
en masse - for heckling a Tech Support that to date only responded
to my complaints/questions about the game by sending me a warning to
stop. Excellent customer service SOE!

Hello everyone.
Like I said in the last post I did anywhere. "If you don't want
to play then don't say anything to those who do." So if you
plan on going to messageboards around places and just posting bashes
on the game, please stop. I don't take to much to bashing games, and
I don't do it myself. If I do, then I keep it to myself and scream
at my screen for 2 and a half days, and not at people who enjoy the
game.
Peace, Love, and the enevidable War that comes to us all.

I absolutely love this game. Yes, it can get repetitive...but what
game doesn't? I've been playing since open beta and I'm into my 2nd
month now and im excited as ever to go home (im at work) and play
it.
No point to the game? I'm going to agree with other ppl on here and
say what is the point of counterstrike and other similiar games?
Just because there is a clear winner? That seems like a very
water`d down version of a "point" If thats the case, then
let there be no point and I will continue having fun.
GG!

Nice review by Tom, whose work is among the most readable and
enjoyable game reviewing out there.
Planetfall sounds interesting, but I'm afraid the price is wrong.
Sorry, Sony, but I won't become part of your monthly revenue stream
- not when I can get all the FPS action I want for free. That's
just the way it is, Big Corporation, and you're going to have to
deal with it.

Planetside is a very well thought up game. They have added many
aspects which have never been in a game before but for the amount of
waiting invovled and the monthly fee it is worthless. Tribes was
probably one of the best games ever created and the fact that it had
one of the steepest learning curves in a game was what made it fun.
You needed to play a lot to get good, it just didn't happen over
night and as a newb you had no chance until you played for hours on
end and conquered the tecnique. No game has been as skill based as
Tribes ever and I only hope they make Tribes 3 much like Tribes 1.

Hey FiringSquad - how about some reviews of real games, and not
these newbie $$$ traps.
I guess I can see where if a person likes team games, it has its
appeal - though team games never truly work unless you are in a
completely closed up and strict clan.
But for what it's worth, by the time you actually find any action in
the game, you could have loaded up Quake 3, SOF 2, RTCW, or Tribes 2
(and gotten the 2 - 3 hours worth of what it takes to feel
semi-fulfilled in PS) in about 15 - 30 minutes (even less time in
Quake 3).
There is also a great lack of purpose. I don't know about anyone
else, but the real world already makes me feel like a peon or speck
in the grand scheme of things, gaming is meant to give you that
center of attention feel so you can actually dictate what is
happening around you - PS is too much like reality in that what you
do doesn't matter much - a single person can't make much of a
difference.
It takes too long to do anything, and everything is hampered by
sloppy weapons, bad movement, and huge terrain with a complete
reliance on others to get you from A to B (at least Tribes 2 gives a
person a jetpack) - though by the time that happens you could have
enjoyed a fast action game with a goal and result in Q3, SOF 2,
RTCW, or Tribes 2 - though weapon, movement, and gameplay wise Q3 is
superior to either. In PS, unless you spend 8 hours a day, you're
not going to see a positive result most of the time - and most us
simply don't have the time for this.
I give the game about 4 - 6 months before the really bad and cynical
reviews come in saying how routine, boring, and discouraging it is
for anyone who wants to deve

My reaction to the game is definately not based on pricing - I could
pay for more than 3 years subscription on a day's salary for me...
Tribes etc. type games have definate winners. You play, win/lose
and then play again - starting afresh.
Planetside you join an existing game, play, win/lose any battles you
may be involved in but in the big scheme of things you never
win/lose - just gain more power/lose power for your faction.
You also don't have much influence over individual battles - unlike
traditional FPS's where a sparkling performance from you can change
the tide of the battle.
$12/month to tear my own hair out?? I'd rather stick pins in my
eyes thanks :)
