| | (Post a comment) » eVGA e-GeForce FX 5900 Ultra RevieweVGA is first to market with a graphics card based on NVIDIA's GeForce FX 5900 Ultra GPU, and it offers one feature that noone else has (for now at least): higher clock speeds! With video input support, it also boasts video editing capabilities. But we know what you're dying to find out -- how much faster is it than the GeForce FX 5900 Ultra reference card, and how does it perform against RADEON 9800 PRO? Find out, as we explore its performance on an Athlon XP rig with all new custom demos! | Previous news article | Back to main news | Next news article |

whats the point of ATI bringing out another card to replace the 9800
untill cunsumers want one. if there current 9800 is giving them
enough performanc for the games they r playing then why will they
buy the new card. im no expert on graphics cards or anything but why
would i spend money on a new card if my current card is doing fine.
the only time ill buy a new one is when the game im playnig is
getting low frame rate. and even then it would take alot of
consideration becuase i know if i change my grapgics card
performance will only imporve slitly. so commonly id upgrade my
whole system. new cpu, ram, graphics card and motherboard. and i do
that about once every year. when i choos my graphics card i tend to
go for the one that has the best performance on the game ill be
playing.

I researched and bought a video card recently and I went with the
MSI FX5600 vtdr128. They did misrepresent the performance abilities
of the card by posting Ultra specs for a non-Ultra card. At the
time the Ultra's were not out and so it was hard to compare. Also,
when I went to Nvidia's site they would only show the specs for the
5600 Ultra. It is still that way. I am disappointed with Nvidia
for not fully disclosing the specs for all their products. I would
expect something like that out of a reseller but the Nvidia site
should be the definitive reference.

You got used for a glowing review. The card they sent you was
clocked higher than the ones they are selling to the rest of us. 2
emails haven't gotten a single response on this question directly to
them. This casts a bad light on your reviews since they are on
products that are not the same as we are going to receive, as well
as a very bad light on a company practice of doing the same.
If I were you I'd get to the bottom of this and retest at the level
of product we are all going to receive should we buy one, unless
someone wants to confirm they are shipping 500mhz cores despite the
data on their site.
Curious and highly dissappointed.

I just read the Tom's hardware article about the feud between NVidia
and FutureMark. My take is that a benchmark becomes 'tainted' when
hardware developers have to pay to have an input on the benchmark's
development.
3DMark may have some awesome looking demos, but it is no substitute
for real-time gaming.

I should have worded that differently. By updated I meant that you
changed the normal lineup of benchmarks to include custom demos for
this review. I wasn't implying that you updated the review after it
was posted or anything like that. However, you did confirm my
suspicions as to why the custom demos are being used and I'm glad to
see FS is taking the initiative on the subject. The custom demos
should give a more accurate representation of real world
performance, and I'm all for that!

The benchmarks were never updated, the article used custom demos
from Day 1.
We're using custom demos in all reviews now to ensure that our
numbers are indeed authentic of true gameplay performance. It's
possible (although not proven) that IHVs may be optimizing for
certain demos. By making our own custom demos, this can't occur.

I checked eVGA's website and they list the memory at 850mhz not at
900mhz like the review says. I also doubt that the core is 500mhz,
but could not verify. Thanks for the misinformation Brandon Bell.
SAY IT AINT SO!
I wanted a 500/900 card!
