First off this article is great. It's nice to see computer
afficionados displaying an intestered in high-end audio video
accessories. Power-related products can be add a great improvement
to any computer or A/V system. It's about achieving the maximum
current throughput, as well as eliminating as much EMI and RFI as
possible. A brand name itdslef doesn't guarantee superior
performace
Monster makes great replacement power cords. So does AudioQuest. I
use a two Monster Power Powerline 200 IEC cables in my system - one
on the monitor and one on the tower's power-supply. The
improvements were well worth the $50 US invested in each cable.
Much better image, sound and all-around performance. The AudioQuest
NRG-1 is on my PlayStation 2. Same benefits.
On the audio and video side, MIT is an often overlooked brand of
"magic" cables. While not cheaps by any means, they do
deliver performance. Their entire design philosophy is eliminating
"phase-errors", by reducing a cable's capacitance and
inductance. When you hear your favorite song, game, or movie, with
it's soundtrack played out in the proper timimg, you won't believe
the difference. It'll finally sound right. The AVT series of
interconnects, both analogue and digital, is a great starting point.
The AVT-1 digital in particular is the best coaxial cable I've ever
heard in my life. Imagine that running out of your soundcard or
onboard audio.
On the video side, MIT's discontinued line of "Res-linq"
cable's are mind blowing. Never has my tv exhibited such depth of
fireld, contrast, sharpness, coulour saturation, and black levels as
with this 100$ co

A very interesting article; though I read that one about building a
workstation this one seems better. I really missed those
"ancient" (some years ago) articles about user built
systems those seemed a bit more lively these are more thoughtful but
equally personal.

I'm just an "anonymous prick" so here goes... ;)
I'm afraid you lost me right in the beginning by bringning up dual
processors like something to have for a "gaming rig". It's
not, and it won't be for as long as any system bought today will be
useable as such either. It's just an off the wall assumption,
similar to the mistake of last year to assume that all AMD systems
used 12V for the CPU. You can definitely write well but in parts the
know-how is missing. Perhaps artciles should be discussed more
between writers before publishing? Just my worthless anon thoughts,
so don't loose heart but take it as an incentive to improve.

I agree... and a Pentium 4 EE or an Athlon FX-51 would also classify
this as an Extreme High End Gaming Workstation...
This looks like more of a 3Drendering workstation then a gaming
machine and will perform as so.. (as seen on Anandtech and
Tomshardware)
And the little extra addtition of (selected benchmarks) makes me
wonder if you'll just post benchmarks in which this system performs
better then the others (P4 & Athlon FX-51) Which from personal
experience (Running my own Comp store) I can tell you a Pentium 4 EE
will run crop circles around a Dual Opteron in gaming... as for the
Athlon FX-51... it's even faster. (It's the use of registered ECC
memory and the Dual 333Mhz(DDR) Memory bus that slows down the
Opteron not to mention that it's powered by a workstation mobo).

I just wish I could even get hold of the original MS Natural
keyboard anymore. If anyone knows a stockist for them, please let
me know. Right now I have three of them that I swap between but I
know that eventually they will break no matter how much I maintain
them...
