(Post a comment) » Max Payne 2 ReviewIn the immortal words of Vladimir Lem: Ladies and gentlemen, allow me to present Max Payne, New York’s finest, with the biggest mobster body count ever. Dearest guests - prepare to die!
We've also got 68 screenshots to prove that body count (we took one out because 69 is a dirty number, and we ph34r the wrath of John Ashcroft.) But Tom... well... he's Tom, and he's got the cajones to say it like it is. 90% and Editor's Choice? He don't think so. | Previous news article | Back to main news | Next news article |

do NOT buy this game unless you enjoy playing the same 30 seconds
over and over because it will freeze every single time you try to
play.

what the hell is wrong with this game? Bought used disc, freezes up
every time I try to play it. Returned disc for another and find the
exact same problem. What gives?

Max Payne 2 is not a melodrama. Max Payne 2 is not another shooter.
It is a work of art. From the moving soundtrack, to the perfectly
formed characters, to the great metaphors, to the complex story, Max
Payne 2 is a work of art. Sure it is a shooting game, but it deals
with serious issues. Max Payne 2 could be placed in the same
category as Shakespearian plays or classic literatrue. The man who
reviewed this game obviously never graduated high school. He
probably played through the game once, skipped over the plot,
ignored the characterization and figured the game was worthless. I
beg to differ. Max Payne 2 deals with the philosophy of
predestination and freedom. Max feels as if he had no freedom and
that his choices are made because of who he is. Max Payne 2 suggests
that their is only one choice: to choose that which will happen.
That's high level thought. Not to mention the symbolism in the game.
"Mirrors are more fun than television." The mirror
represents personal examination. The television is a natural symbol
the examination of others and is also a conventional symbol of
understanding, as Max understands the situations of his life as he
pieces them together when watching TV (ie the dream where one draws
the connection between Vlad's broken arm and Mona's line
"You're nothing but a one armed bandit.) Put those elements
with a twisting plot with many details and you have a moving piece
of art.

The reviewer seems to miss the best thing about Max Payne 2, it's a
hell of a fun game to play and you just keep on playing until the
end. Maybe that's one reason why it feels so short aswell. It's
actually one of the rare games Ive been able to finnish in the past
few years.
Sure it's not the longest game and the replayability is so so. I
personally liked to see and wander around the levels for another
time just in case I missed something the first time and sure you
don't get to see the alternate ending if you dont even try the
harder difficulty level.
