(Post a comment) » 2D Display Quality: Rapid Communication"2D or not 2D that is the question." -Alan
In this short preview, Alan documents the performance differences between plugging in a monitor into a regular surge protector and plugging it into a high-end line conditioner. He also starts to look at the differences between ATI and NVIDIA cards. You might be surprised with what he found out. | Previous news article | Back to main news | Next news article |

2D Display Quality: Rapid Communication ...Alan /.effect Dang
How about you include Matrox GPU's in next, more extensive
investigation... it is common knowledge that they have superior 2d
picture quality...
it would be interesting to see exactly how the three major GPU
manufacturers fair together...
i'm still plugging away on a Matrox G400max ... clearest quality,
and dvd playback i have ever come across... using viewsonic PF795
monitor...
thanks...

So it's better to say "We used a line conditioner from a
manufacturer we will not name and videocard 1 versus videocard
2?" Your claims are completely unfounded, and I'm going to
ignore any further false accusations.
Most people like the rapid communication idea -- it gives readers a
chance to see some of the latest data coming out of our test labs,
especially when the whole test isn't something that's going to go up
in the future.
If I tell you exactly what I'm going to do and how I'm going to do
it, and I lose the advantage over our competition. That's the
nature of this business. It's not like the movie True Lies where I
can tell you what I'm about to do and still carry it out. Time is
not on my side.
There's no skill involved in determining whether A or B is better.
A toddler could do that. The secret is figuring out how to obtain
picture A and picture B, and what the appropriate tools are for
analysis. Giving out all of my future plans would be akin to giving
out my playbook to the opposing team. Once the play is complete,
then the methods will be open for everyone to examine -- but only
then.
I've posted enough information to be meaningful to readers while
also preventing other sites from guessing what the complete test is.
It's as simple as that.
We're not doing anything out of the ordinary either. ExtremeTech's
DVI Complaince shoot-out is a remarkable piece of work, and they
were successful in bringing out the first part in July and 2nd part
in November without any competitor sniping the victory for the very
reasons I mentioned above.

why wouldnt he be accused of being paid off by monster when all he
talked about was the brand name of the line conditioner he was
using. the article basically forgot to take into account so many
factors that affect visual quality, it makes people wonder what his
motives were for the article. even if it was a preview he should
have mentioned the different methodology of the upcoming "full
article". so its either his testing method is flawed or he can
admit to stealth advertising plain and simple.

I just find it sad that Alan is accused of being paid off by Monster
Cable for mentioning the equipment he used in an article and how it
performs, yet noone accuses me of being paid off by ATI for the
Auction Madness news post and update I've made since Friday.
The way people react to some brands just utterly confuses me. What
has Monster Cable done to all these people that offends them? Bose
and Rockford Fostgate are other examples.

i totally agree. i use a 5 bnc connector on my old lacie monitor for
color correction with photoshop and it much better than using a
regular cable. the blacks are pure black and the colors are more
vibrant. this without even using a line conditioner. but then again
the ups we use at work have built in filters.
i still believe that cheap ferret coils will do a decent job at
producing better 2d image than expensive line conditioners. hard to
find them but they are out there. ati used to bundle them with their
video cards for the macintosh because they know how important color
accuracy is to designers and artists.
