 Tiger Woods Out...Until August!

| | (Post a comment) » Counter-Strike GoodbyeMy on-again, off-again love affair with CS has come to an end. Though I've forsworn the game before, every time I've returned it's been like rediscovering my first love all over again. CS, I might love you, but you're like the ex-girlfriend who let herself go. It's time to say goodbye. You've always had special meaning for me, so pardon the incoherent rambling as I vainly try to decipher what went wrong this time, why I didn't have fun, and why I'll be playing CoD, Enemy Territory and Battlefield 1942 (once the 1.6 patch comes out.) | Previous news article | Back to main news | Next news article |

I've felt this way about CS ever since beta 7 came out. Making sure
everyone on a server is has a 1:1 kill ratio does not make it a good
teamplay game. And frankly the retards that love CS for teamplay
seem to be the type with so little skill that they'd never get a
frag in any games besides CS. It's only lasted legacy is the
destruction of fun teamplay. Anyone that displays any skill is
assumed to be a cheater. It will take a long time for that dark
cloud over online gaming to dissipate. The day the last server of
CS goes offline will be a better day for online gaming.
After I turned away from CS I played DoD, but now DoD is basically
CS with WWII skins and weapons. Blech. ET is probably the best mix
of teamplay and individual fun I have played in a long time. There
might still be hope.

Superb article, Jakub. Two comments.
1) The nostalgia for Quake is partly a sadness about what has
replaced it, not just CS but a broad slate of multiplayer games that
exist, like children's t-ball, to give even the most mediocre player
an even chance. John Carmack did as much to take gaming in this
direction as anyone with the kinder, gentler dm of Q2 and Q3. It
was a wise marketing move. Gaming has long since moved out of its
ghetto and into the big time, where mass taste rules, and the first
rule of mass taste is to make the consumer feel good. Quake could
not be a template for future multiplayer gaming because Joe Blow,
with his shiny new Dell, expects to be allowed to kick some #!&.
2) CS and its ilk thrive on imitating realism. Nothing was real
about Quake, neither weapons nor physics (and least of all level
design). Quake was an initiation into something weird, unique, a
strange world with its own hard rules and unforgiving
idiosyncracies. That's gone now. Today, we're all supposed to
salute and play soldier. Yawn.

Long "Editorial".
Sorry you lost your love for CS, too many folks still cheat, the
graphics are dated and the AWP is still the bane to my existance.
But yet with steam, it is still the first game that gets installed
when I rebuild a box.... Go figure!
See you in CS or DOD ;-)

As I've said before, EVERY game gets better with dedicated teammates
and clanmates. It's not fair to compare CS with a clan to another
game without. More importantly, the vast majority of gamers aren't
involved in dedicated teams, or rarely get to play with them.

Well, the fact that no one can say "good-bye" to this
thread tells me that CS isn't dead...
hey, that rhymes.

CS is sh1te. The 1st year of it was ok, but after that it was back
to Quakeworld. A great thing about qw is that people are still
finding new jumps and tactics and increasing their skills after 7
years, and the Gameplay has NEVER changed. No patches, no updates,
hardly any cheaters, just a good community and perfect DM/1on1/TDM
gameplay. Go back to quakeworld. Hey, your original install will
still work!!!

Interesting article but you've completely missed the point of the
game!
This is a Team game and not just anyone u meet who u dont know or
care about its a team that you play with together and develop
tactics with. This makes the game interesting in the way that any
other strategy game can be years after the technology is really
old.
Hence you dont get it im afraid. Try playing it properly then

Every game serves its time. I mean, we played Pacman, Mario, Quarke,
HL, CS; sooner or later gamers need new game. I guess it is time up
for CS.
