It's not their choice of incrementing that bothers me, though I
agree it is stupid. What bothers me is that 3.10 followed 3.9. Do
you know how long I spent trying to install the newest drivers, and
got confused because I thought it was reverting to 3.1? I thought
the newest were 3.9, didn't pay close attention when downloading, so
I was completely baffled with why it kept reverting to 3.1.
Bah. 3.01, 3.02, 3.03... THEN 3.10. $$## bumpkinds.

You know, after reading the article and learning where the driver
versions from ATI get their names, I must say that that is THE
lamest versioning system I've ever head of. "The 3 is for the
year, and the 10 is for the tenth driver release."
I'm a programmer, so maybe I feel different about this than others,
but basing version numbers off of dates is stupid. Next release
will be 4.1, and some people will incorrectly assume that it will
offer up some major improvements to 3.10. Apparently, it won't; it
will just be the first release of 2004.
For the record, the way versioning is supposed to work is as
follows:
First, the major number (to the left of the decimal) indicates a new
version. It may not be backwards compatible, for example, as the
new version may have an improved file format. (So in Office 2003,
you might be able to open office XP files okay, but XP might not be
able to open all 2003 files.) Anyway, it's basically used for major
changes to the underlying software.
Next, you have the decimal point followed by a number. This
indicates pretty important bug fixes or changes to the current
version. So you might have version 2.1 and 2.2, and the latter will
have a lot of important bug fixes.
After that, you could either add another decimal point, or you might
just use numbers for hundredths and thousandths or whatever. These
numbers are for minor bug fixes. Essentially, you should only worry
about getting them if they solve an issue for you. So 2.1 to 2.2 is
a pretty important change, but 2.2 to 2.2.1 might be unimportant for
the majority of people.
I know, there are plenty of other ways of doing versio

Why do I seem to get "ghosting" or double-vision like text
with the Catalyst 3.10 drivers using a 9600XT? This problem occurs
with text in browser windows and on the desktop. Very strange

very satisfied with 3.10 Catalyst drivers.

Hey to all you having problems with some 3d games, there is a modded
driver called Omega, they have just moded the 3.10's and these guys
solved all my problems. Well at least I think they did because
after I install them, the games that wouldn't work for me now WORKS.
HALO for ex, I used to be able to run it with lowest resolution with
all detail to the lowest(aka safe mode). Now I'am running it on
1024*768. Battle Field 1942, Call of Duty, NFS Underground all
werks!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The problem i had was monitor going blank saying frequency out of
range either right after I enter the game or after the game started
for a while.
