Holy Crap! I didn't read this article until now but the funny thing
is that, whichever moron wrote it, just had to use this crap
"The Soviet MiG-15s that ruled the skies over Korea (initially)
would not have existed if the Rolls Royce company did not sell the
plans to the jet engine (after the head was hustled in a game of
pool.)".
I say get over yourself already! Any chance you arrogant %@@ get to
get a pick at Russians, you start whining your %@@ off. Just talk to
the experts in the air force, you rednecks borrowed a lot from
Russian plane/figher design. And don't forget all the spy baloons
that you used to send during Cold War to steal the secrets as well.
So, don't even bring up MiG-15s. Heck, just visit many military
forums and try to overglorify your yankee crap or put down
Russian/Soviet stuff, and you'll get ripped to shreds and set in
your place. 'Nuff said ;-)
PS If it wasn't for Soviets, your asses wouldn't live through the
WW2 anyway, so PFFT on you. ;-P

It seems that whenever there is a news article about the 'history'
of 3D chips, Rendition is left out of the picture.
For a pretty good period of time, they were a very major player, and
the only particularily direct competitor to the original Voodoo
series.

For the record, Simon F is one of the architects of the PowerVR,
someone whose statements are reliable. :)
I'll update the article to clarify:
"Now the interesting story is why the PCX went with per-pixel linear
MIP mapping as opposed to including bilinear filtering. (Note that
per-pixel as opposed to per-polygon MIP mapping was also a key point
in PowerVR's premium design). We've heard stories of how the PCX
could have had bilinear filtering and that the engineers knew that
it was possible to add the feature but overlooked it. In our first
run of this article, we went with the "bilinear filtering left out",
but we were corrected by one of the architects of the PowerVR, a
trusted resource. It is fact that the PCX1 never had anything other
than per-pixel linear MIP mapping as the design choice. Our PowerVR
stories come from current and ex-VideoLogic engineers as well as
board manufacturers courted by PowerVR. In our opinion, the most
likely story is an overzealous individual somewhere along the chain
between engineering and a 3rd-party board manufacturer with an
exaggerated story. That said, the fact that the story even exists
reflects the desire that many had for PowerVR's success."

Onboard Savage4
Leadtek GF3 Ti200
Radeon 9700non-pro
I never had enough money to build a proper system until the GF2's
were out (that’s when I got the integrated Savage4 - found on a
gigabyte KM-133 powered by a Duron800)
The GF3 Ti200 came to me through need more than anything else. It
sucks not being able to play Quake3 in 32bit colour at 800x600.
The i got myself a job and treated myself to an Abit KR7A-133 along
with an AthlonXP 2000+ and 1536mb DDR333 RAM (I’m still using this
setup.) A year later i got sick of playing games at 1024x768 with
8xAF (I can’t stand playing games without max AF) and so i upgraded
to the Radeon.
Each step up in 3rd performance was astronomical to say the least.
But it has to be said that the GF3 did have astounding 2D quality,
I'd rank it as high as the Radeon’s 2D.
